Competitive RAGE?

Post » Thu Dec 08, 2011 6:51 pm

Hey, new poster here.

I am yet to purchase RAGE a long with many friends as we all tend to enjoy the more competitive side of PC gaming, such as tournaments, LAN's, ladders, leagues, etc. upon viewing RAGE the game doens't seem compatable in tournament play and am yet to hear of RAGE backing a tournament or LAN to kick start the competitive side.

I am unaware of Bethesda's plans with RAGE, I would love to see the game go competitive just like Quake did, it seems that most (PC) FPS games released these days don't seem to care about the competitive/professional side of gaming and so they release games like black-ops (a game clearly more targeted at casual players, in my opinion).

If anybody could inform me on here whether it would be worth to get RAGE in a hope for a competitive side? or not to bother at all then that would be very helpful.

Thanks.

If you like to play games and have fun then get Rage. is a pretty good game with a good enemy AI.
If you only play games for competitive sport there is a vehicle combat MP that supports four players at a time which is pretty fun.
If you base your game purchases on things other people say you are hopeless.

I base my game purchases through reviews, in game multiplayer footage and system compatibility, from me asking if the game has any plans on being compatible for competitive play to suggesting my direction in buying games is "hopeless", I think you need to review what point you are attempting to put forward.
I am quite aware of the game, I have done a fair bit of research, yet I haven't seen much about and/or reviews on competitive play, hence- i'm here.

Also, correct me if I am wrong but, don't 90% of people base their game purchases through what other people say? (reviews, talk through's, walk through's, friends and ratings) I believe they do.

I think the combat racing/rally is the next big thing in competitive gaming. It sounds like you already know about the limitations but yeah, I say get it. We'll do battle on the track for glory!

no idea about the 90% but I know that reviews are biased and in my personal experience that I like some games my friends don't and don't like some they do, and I never watch playthrough's before playing a game to avoid spoilers. just did a quick internet search and found that 30% of american's don't have access to the internet which throws easy access to reviews and playthrough video's. I would bet most people buy games based on tv adds or just browsing the store and reading the back of the game case and seeing if it looks cool.
I didn't mean to come off as strong as I did. Perhaps I should have worded it more like "rent the game or find someone who has has and play for a while to see if its for you."
the competitive MP is all car combat which is fun and could get big if a lot of people get into it, only time will tell. however the game shines in the SP with beautiful environment variety of guns and ammo and brilliant enemy AI.
there are few game modes and maps for the car combat right now but there could be more as DLC again time will tell.

I never buy games based off reviews, especially after seeing the reviews of RAGE. Whatever you do, base your opinion off price, genre (whether you enjoy that genre or not), developer and your friends. Most prfessional reviewers I've seen are morons, hence I onlyu read them for s*&^s and giggles.

I can tell you more about the game, based on what you're looking for however.

The Versus multiplayer is all in vehicles, and is quite fast paced. I don't believe there is any team based stuff on that though. You do go up levels unlocking various things for your cars.
The Wasteland Legends (on foot coop) is good, and there is a ladder based on points that your team (of two) accumulates during a mission. It's really cool, the point system is quite good, and the missions are pretty replayable.
The single player if you ever do decide you want to play it is not the longest campaign around, probably averaging 15 hours for a 100% completion, depending whether you've played it before or not. It is a lot of fun, the weapons feel good and the enemies are quite interesting.

There will be DLC for the game, but as of yet, to the best of my knowledge what the DLC is is unconfirmed.

Hope that helps your decision!
