Complaints about FNV?

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 5:25 pm

I'm shocked about how many complaints there are about FNV. I have PURCHASED only 7 games in the last 5 years:

Rock band.
Rock band 2.
Rock band: Beatles
Rock band 3.
Fallout 3.
Fallout New Vegas.
Bayonetta.

... only ONE of those games do I wish I could get a refund on, and I'll give you a hint: it starts with "B" and ends with an "ayonetta". (It was fun for an hour or so, don't get me wrong.)

FNV is released at a price point below most saturday morning cartoon spinoff game trash. Bayonetta was $80/CND on release day, and it's nowhere NEAR as awesome as FNV.

From the perspective of a software engineer: This product is -amazing-. The attention to detail, the characters, everything about this game demonstrates how passionate the designers, developers, engineers, and artists were. Who is to blame? Alright, let's put it all on the game testers for the bugs.

Extremists on forums tend to say it's "the best" or "the worst", but really it's probably somewhere right in the middle. Rarely do I see people post their opinion on something with "I have no serious opinion in either direction," but rather something like "I hate it it's the worst pile of crap to ever be crapped" OR "I LOVE it, best thing ever made and ever will be made PERIOD." I realize this trend and I try not to be svcked into such extremes, but I've given it a lot of thought:

Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas are the best games I have ever played.

I mean this 100%, and my gaming days go back a long way. ETQW, World of Warcraft, Quake, Super Mario World, Double Dragon, Master Blaster, Nibbles, L.O.R.D, SRE, BRE, etc... I know, some of these aren't very great by comparison, but my point is this: compare the AVERAGE game released today against F3 or FNV. Most of them are (by comparison) crap and cost the same if not more.

The problem is F3 set the bar and I think the expectations some people had for FNV may have been a bit unreasonable, but I can say it is clearly not a bad product, it isn't even a good product, it's at least a great product.

The only thing that I really don't like is that there are a lot of bugs right now. I'm fairly certain that that won't be a problem for too long.

I love it.

i understand where your coming from. if i were to live in a turkish prison and had to drink toilet water to survive for five years, im sure stagnated pond water would taste like fine wine in comparison.

this game will be a decent game if they ever patch the thing, but its not the best game i ever played.

FNV is a great game despite all the problems that exist. My main problems are the lack of HUD/menu improvements from F3, stability, draw distances and the lack of random encounters.

Well I get them mostly as gifts from my girl, I'm old and gaming isn't a priority for me really.

i understand where your coming from. if i were to live in a turkish prison and had to drink toilet water to survive for five years, im sure stagnated pond water would taste like fine wine in comparison.

This made me laugh, but LORD and BRE are as awesome today as they were when I first started playing them in that Turkish prison.

For what you're paying now for a game and what you get when compared with a) what you would have gotten for the same price 10 years ago (donkey kong country or something) or B) other games on the market, overlooking the bugs (as you recognise, thank you,) it is certainly one of the best games of the year, at least.

I'm shocked you don't like Bayonetta...

I liked it, but it certainly wasn't worth the $80 I paid for it. Very much rental material. I have spent maybe 3 hours on that game in the past year, so not very high scoring. But this is par for the market outside of a select few doorcrasher games. For this year I would personally boil it down to: Halo Reach, Fallout: NV, Rock Band 3, Dragon Age, and SC2... MAYBE Civ5, we'll see how sales are, but keep in mind there have been thousands of games released in 2010 alone, and that means these 6 games are within the top 1% at the very least.

I thought Bayonetta was brilliant!

Beautifully scripted, great characters, awesome voice acting and glorious graphics. I mean outstanding. As was the humor.

Oh - and no crashing!!! ::cough cough::

You had to pay far more attention and not give in to the desire to button mash though - and that frustrated a lot of people. I had to practice the combat moves - a lot- and get good in them, before I loved it.

I loved Bayonetta played it repeatedly & will continue to do so & they're right Bayonetta wasn't just a button smasher it looked that way from the start but if you want the platinum & gold metals on every stage You need practice But it isn't for everyone Just as Fallout New Vegas isn't for everyone. People say they hate Fallout New Vegas don't look down on them just remember it's their right They paid $60.00 for the title if it's not to their liking then So be it except it just focus on what you liked about the game list what you love about & stand by it & ignore the rest

Its not that FNV or F3 set the bar...

its open world action-rpg-interact-with-90%-of-the-environment games which set the bar which bethesda sort of excell at.

and there are many poor imitators at this..

if you cant interact in the open world.. fugedaboutit

but I don't think that crashing should dictate whether it was a good game or not. Did you like the story, the characters, the guns, the content, if so then it's a good game. I keep getting the stupid 2nd playthrough bug on borderlands but I still love that game.

Humans tend to hype up things to the point where nothing is good enough like some leader in power. He was so hyped up that when he didn't do something the first day he was in power he was said to be the worse leader in history. Nothing can be perfect and I think that as long as the sum is as good or better than the part then I'm satisfied.

I disagree, if the game makes it impossible for me to immerse myself into it by constantly bugging out (E-DE keeps on getting randomly attacked by friendlies...and it's not wearing faction armor, for obvious reasons...and neither am I) and crashing it's not a good game, it's "decent" at most. There's a lot of games that have bugs, but in FNV they are really really gamebreaking and occuring all the time, not just every once in a blue moon.

But then that's also subjective because not all of us get those bugs. I've gotten some bad ones but I guess I want to play the game more than the bugs bother me.

When Fallout 2 came out it was a glitch filled, bug infested, broken quest mess. Anyone else remember? Still my favorite game ever. NV is similar. It may have problems, but it has CHARACTER.

Return to Fallout: New Vegas
