Computer problem

Post » Thu Dec 08, 2011 3:01 pm

So several weeks ago I noticed that my games graphics were........... off to say the least

http://i1142.photobucket.com/albums/n619/TheSajuukKhar/ep2_outland_020000.jpg
It is kind hard to see here but if you look at the railing on the right you will see that the middle bar that runs horizontally between the railing is missing

http://i1142.photobucket.com/albums/n619/TheSajuukKhar/ep2_outland_020001.jpg
Walking just a few steps forward however causes it to "pop in", also note that there is no visible blood around Alyx's body in this picture

http://i1142.photobucket.com/albums/n619/TheSajuukKhar/ep2_outland_020002.jpg
However after walking just a few steps more the blood pops in

This kind of pop-ing is happening in all my games and I can't seem to figure out what is causing it.

I have
-Reinstalled by OS, I was planning to go from 32bit to 64bit anyways so I figured why not
-Updated to the newest video card drivers
-Checked both my ram sticks, first by removing ram stick 2 and seeing if the problem still persisted, then removing ram stick 1 and putting 2 in its place
-Put in a different video card I had sitting around, unless by some ungodly chance both video cards had the same problem

done some other stuff but cant remember everything

I don't remember what's in them at the moment, but have you checked the HL2 video settings themselves?

Yes, but it is happening in ALL my games from HL2 to Guild Wars to Oblivion.

I would also note that HL2's movement, and camera movement in many of my games in general, feels abnormally sluggish, it's smooth but its also slow.

I am thinking my proc might be messed up or something.

First of all, texture "pop-up" is common on all games and all engines. It has nothing to do with the operating system, RAM, or the CPU. It is related to the graphic card (more specifically video memory) and the game's engine.

From your pictures it really doesn't seem abnormal. The first picture does have the middle railing, but its partially masked by HDR or bloom effects.

If you want less texture pop-up then get a graphics card with more VRAM. Although the game's engine could limit the range in which textures load.

You have some texture pop-up and you think there is a major problem...

Check your graphics driver settings to make sure you don't have anything set to performance (instead of quality). Check the mipmap detail level, AA, and AF settings.

If you had read my 2nd post you would have noticed that my games are also running slow, both when moving and when turning cameras. It is beyond a pop-in problem.

Also I already did check my nvidia setting.

What don't you post a dxdiag report so I can see it is a hardware related issue.

What's your PSUs wattage? If it's fine, what temperatures are your GPU/PCU running at?

Everything looks fine, except you are using a Microsoft flagged driver for your integrated sound chipset. Microsoft (windows update) drivers are usually outdated.

Also you have a lot of
 Device Name: USB Receiver
under DirectInput devices. They are logitech devices. Do you have a logitech keyboard or mouse? If so which model(s)? A defective or mis-configured input device could cause slowness. Although I can't say it exactly fits your symptoms.

If you haven't already, try resetting your video card graphic's settings to default.
