My current computer has been slowly dying, or so it appears to me. I strongly believe that it's the motherboard, and I"ll outline why I think so. I can't turn off my computer anymore, or even reset it, because if I do, it refuses to even load windows most of the time, often taking upwards of 24 hours before Windows will finally load. The thing is, it goes straight TO windows. No spec screen stating what the MOBO is, no option to try to load to safe mode, no option to get into BIOS, it just stays in a straight black screen the entire time, until it finally decides to boot up Windows. To me, that screams that the Motherboard has a faulty circuit or something, as it is what controls the ability to go into BIOS. My wife insists that it's a registry error, and that we can fix it just by reformatting the hard-drive, but to my knowledge, you can't reformat a harddrive if you can't stop the computer from booting windows, and instead booting from the Windows XP(in my case) disc.
So I come to you all in the hopes that you can either back me up, or refute my judgement and side with my wife. Just honest opinions, if I can fix this in some other way then just building a brand new computer, I'll accept that. Giving the information, would you say it's a critical error in the MOBO, or is it possible to fix this in another way. Again, I restate that I can not go into BIOS, I can't load into Safe Mode, all I get is a straight black screen for X amount of time until it finally decides to load Windows.
