Conditional morality

Post » Tue Jun 05, 2012 6:16 pm

I know it's all a game. That being said, I feel no compunction slaughtering random spawned bandits but I'm always given to pause when facing a named opponent, even when evil. Spawned characters are like using save game files. Named characters play dead is dead. They're not coming back (no console commands on 360.)

Feels a bit more real thinking about death. I'm imagining in another 20 years they will be able to simulate a non-scaled world, thousands of named characters. Then all the bandits I face will have real lives and families and won't have just spawned when I went around the corner. So I'll feel a bit of guilt but at least I'll know they started it.

I think it'd give more gratification if they all have names when I store their bodies forever in my house of horrors.

To each their own, but when I roleplay, I don't pick the good characters, I pick the sick and demented types or hardcoe chaotic neutral; and when I roleplay, I roleplay hard.

Turn off the HUD, then you don't know their names at all, there's realism for ya!

I like talking to any NPC that hears me out, but if they attack me or instantly become red dots, I fight them. I guess that's conditional morality. I mean, I don't have some overarching goal to go out of my way to be some uber good guy with generalized morals, both in life and games.

How will you feel when you find their pockets all had letters to their moms/dads/whatever? I think in 20 years they'd all be fairly unique letters too!

I rp as a good guy to the extent that a good guy hacks people to death with swords. The tech is there for some pretty graphic dismemberment if they wanted to and these weapons do not leave clean corpses.

I find the evil quests to be repellant and felt virtuous when I killed the cannibal cult recruiter. Something in the game glitched and I'm now the champion of the cannibal daedra. :( was even greeted as such by the random encounter guy who is activated after completing the quest as evil. He offered to let me take the first bite of someone he killed. Needless to say he was dead before he hit the ground. But I'm still stuck as a ghoul.

If someone's trying to kill you, the least you can do is return the favor.

I feel bad enough when I find the bodies with stories. Found a woman who was sneaking away to elope with her lover. They got eaten by bears. Godless killing machines. Found the corpses with stories in a falmer cave.

Got the quest to tell a family the dad died on an adventure but their dialogue glitched so I can't complete the quest. So instead of sad I wonder if killing them would clear my cluttered quest log and realize I found the line where good comes into conflict with OCD.

yeah, just turn HUD opacity all the way down.

Don't know if you'll like it, it literally takes away EVERYTHING including bow crosshair, I personally have found it awesome, but you will be using clairvoyance alot to travel..much more immersive IMO but it's a shame it turns everything off.

PS Deadwood (*&*ing rules.

I don't like siding with daedra, because in my imagination, dealing with demons or demon like characters always has some "small letter" clause at the bottom of the contract that screws you eventually. But it's not because of some goody-good character ideals. I just don't like to be used.

As for regular enemies - I could care less if they have a "mom". If they attack me, I fight them with a clear conscience.

I'm also concerned about locking out content I might want. I've already had several useful npc's die from misadventure. Lost an orc tribal leader due to a saber cat attack. The cats chased me to their village and the orcs charged the cats.

I got in a fist fight with a Benor, but a damn dragon appeared out of nowhere and attacked Morthal. Benor just ignored it and kept punching me. I got tired of his idiocy and cut him down. I don't feel bad about it.

I killed Arcadia in Whiterun because she kept saying I may have an illness.

Also, I didn't like her face.

I've accidentally started a few rampages but always reloaded from the last save. Tried shouting a mouthy kid expecting her to bounce. She didn't. Her ward is invisible and strong! Lol whole town jumped me.
