Conflict, or Bethesda?

I only started playing again (since release) in the last couple days, so I wasn't here for the changeover to the new patch, which I hear is pretty buggy. Right now, I'm simply trying to figure out whether or not a bug I am getting is from the patch, from a mod, or what.

Same issue as http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1385375-2-hander-bug/.

Basically, greatsword attacks and animations seem bugged for both vanilla and modded in weapons. I am not using any mods that should be affecting how greatswords fudamentally function.

When swinging a greatsword, you will hear a woosh whenever it makes a valid attack and can strike something, Oftentimes, especially if moving (though not limited to that), when I click attack, I hear the woosh before the animation and a hit is made on the enemy instantly. For weak enemies, this means I will click and they will die before my sword actually even swings. If I make a point of clicking super fast and moving around, the animations will continuously interrupt and I will hear many wooshes in rapid succession. I just did the Battle for Windhelm (which was miraculously not bugged) and just to see how bad I could bug this out, I went crazy on the clicking and the movement.. I was able to kill almost as fast as I could click, and killed a wave of at least ten soldiers in 5-6 seconds.

A lot of the time, I will get a double hit, where I will click to attack, get a woosh (and connect), only for the sword to swing and connect a second time.

This is infuriating because it makes battles way too easy, and it looks like crap when I twich my sword and everything in front of me dies.

This is my first greatsword character, so I have no prior experience with these weapons.

I would like to post my load order but I'm not sure how to do that these days, so any help would be appreciated.

Is anyone else able to reproduce this? Just console yourself any vanilla greatsword and try it out.

I should note, I actually deactivated ALL MODS, and it was still there. So short of deleting everything but the Skyrim BSAs in my data folder, I am sure this is a Bethesda bug, but I REALLY need to confirm it with others. I'm not comfortable with an assumption on this one.

Thanks for any replies.

It sounds like a conflict somewhere. Are you sure you've fully uninstalled all your mods? Scripts and all?

If so, and you have these problems in pure vanilla as you insist, it sounds like it may be a setting in one of the ini files. If you've done any tweaking, I recommend deleting the Skyrim.ini and SkyrimPrefs.ini files, starting the game, and having Skyrim generate new ones.

Also, try starting a new game if those don't seem to do anything. It could be an issue on your save.

Other than that, there's not much else I can tell you.

I've been having this problem since the latest patch too, I don't know what the cause is though lol. Might be worth noting I'm using an xbox pad, I've not tested to see if it still happens with a mouse/keyboard.

I use a mouse and keyboard. About to clean out my install and start a new character to see if it's still there.

I cleanerd everything out and it went away (mostly). I still got it to happen twice out of a about fifty swings, so my guess is that it's a rare Bethesda bug that a mod I installed was causing to happen a lot more often. I will post here (and let the author know) if I ever figure out what mod caused it.

Interesting, I thought this was a bug in my mod (Duke Patrick's Archery and Heavy Weapons). This was driving me crazy as I thought it was a bug I made. Fortunately it only happens occasionally in my game, but still annoying.

To be sure I guess I am going to have to uninstall my mod and see if it still happens.

If it helps, I didn't have your mod.

(again, dont know how to post load order these days)

It seems like some mods (as it's apparently more than one) can cause this vanilla bug to appear much more often, who knows why.
