Constant APPCRASH after cinematic after New Game.

I am getting the same problem, I finish watching the intro cinematic, the game goes to load and then I get an error message saying the program has stopped working.
Really hoping someone can help, have loved all the previous Fallout games and really want to love this one too.

My Solution:

I had the same problem in Fallout 3 and New Vegas. I find if I disable my second monitor (restart computer and unplug it to be sure) the games run fine. I was able to use both my monitors in Fallout 3 after I had installed FOMM (Fallout Mod Manager) but I have no idea why-- or even if a FOMM type mod will be developed for New Vegas. If you also have two monitors, try disabling one.

There are also quite a few folks who are dropping a customized directx d3d9.dll in their fallout folder and reporting some success. Didn't work for me, but scan the forums and you'll see a few http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1122294-game-crashes-just-after-first-movie-steam/ with that solution posted. [insert the usual caveat about downloading unknown files from the internet here]

I had the same problem in Fallout 3 and New Vegas. I find if I disable my second monitor (restart computer and unplug it to be sure) the games run fine. I was able to use both my monitors in Fallout 3 after I had installed FOMM (Fallout Mod Manager) but I have no idea why-- or even if a FOMM type mod will be developed for New Vegas. If you also have two monitors, try disabling one.

There are also quite a few folks who are dropping a customized directx d3d9.dll in their fallout folder and reporting some success. Didn't work for me, but scan the forums and you'll see a few similar threads with that solution posted. [insert the usual caveat about downloading unknown files from the internet here]

I have the same crash but don't have multiple monitors hooked up.

W00t all, I had a Mini Monitor (USB Display) whose driver was still installed. Removing this has fixed my issue with both games it appears. Good luck all
