Constant Crashes to Desktop

Post » Tue May 29, 2012 3:16 pm

Hello everyone, I just bought skyrim for the PC yesterday, and I finished installing it, but whenever the cart that I'm on enters Helgen, I always crash to desktop with no error. It always happens around the same area in the intro.

I'm using the latest drivers for my graphics card and mobo, I've tried setting the shadows to low and verifying the integrity of the cache and it still crashes.
Any help?

I'm using a MSI 560 ti, P8Z68, i5 2500k, and 8gb 1600 ram. I assume it has nothing to do with the hardware.

EDIT: I've installed from the disc, if that matters.

Any mods or script extenders or other third party software for Skyrim?

No mods at all, haven't modified/added anything into the skyrim directory.

Refresh your INI files and see if that helps.

Would I just delete them and have the game create new ones?

Yep. Skyrim.ini and SkyrimPrefs.ini in the Skyrim directory under My Games, not the ones in the Steam directory.

It's a bit odd, though, that your INI files were messed up on a clean install with no changes or anything. And verifying didn't catch it. Very odd...

I did change the mouse acceleration though, could that have messed it up?

It was under skyrimprefs.ini and the line said something along the lines of bmouseacceleration=1
