Constant CTD's with 1.4

Post » Wed May 30, 2012 2:47 pm

I have been using Skyrim with ENB Series (to fix issues) and now I find that the 1.4 Patch fails repeatedly with CTD's, almost immeadiatley. If I have it on medium settings and try to use a spell it will CTD and if I move (ie spin on the spot) it will also CTD.

Putting it on LOW does cure the spell CTD, though their should be no real reason why IMO. Using ENBseries makes no difference to this issue but does cure the slow loading screen issue and stutters I've always had.

I've tried a full re-install and fresh settings

My question is is it possible to rollback to 1.3 at least until a solution is found.

ENB Series.
To fix issues... right.
It doesn't work - so you figure rolling back to v1.3 is the solution?
Don't know your hardware but friend, you need to get the stock default vanilla game up & running before anything else.
Version 1.4.27 of it.
It works fine (but of course Skyrim is still full of quest-bugs).
However at least the basic game is running stably for the vast majority of people...
You'd better get your game functioning BEFORE you consider experimenting with Boris's graphics enhancements (which are apparently giving your rig indigestion).
Good luck,

@Gryphon: Boris produced 2 versions of ENB for Skyrim, one was to fix bugs, the other is graphics enhancement. From the sound of the post, OP is using the first.

OP: AFAIK, unless you've personally made backups, you can't rollback to 1.3, even with a reinstall. Have you checked the http://enbdev.com/enbseries/forum/ to see if other people are having the same issues?

I have re-installed to stock game, as I said.

ENB isn't the issue, and actually did fix earlier versions. It still provides a modest fix to the startup time, and of course allows some 'effects' but the issue is definateley with Skyrim as If I use either with or without the fault is the same.

My hardware is old, but as I said it also previously worked, well. The previous issues that were fixed with ENB were, variable CTD's (after 20 or so mins) and some graphical glitches. The new problem is that it won't run for more than a few seconds, with or without ENB.

Hence me needing to roll back 1.3 as they've obviously 'upgraded' something my system won't handle.

But as you say I don't seem to be able to do that either.

You might as well want to delete (back them up first, if you want) your skyrim.ini, skyrimprefs.ini & rendererinfo.txt and start the game up to generate new ones.

On Steam you can NEVER rollback. It`s a disadvantage of Forced-Steam that no one wants to admit.

Before you could use a Patch version that suited you, now it`s impossible and no one cares because Steam is so `wonderful`. It`s one reason I don`t like Steam. This is what I mean about Steam eroding a player`s freedom of gaming.
