constantly freezes

I am sick and tired of playing this game. It CONSTANTLY freezes. I keep giving it another try and over and over again it freezes. I know its FALLOUT NEW VEGAS that freezes because Fallout 3 never freezes, nor does any other game that I own. Fallout New Vegas is the only game that I have that freezes and I play plenty of other games. I am curious to see if anyone else is having the same issue? I am about to never play it again because I feel as if its destroying my PS3 each time it freezes. Please write and let me know if anyone else is having the same issue. Also, bring the DLC to PS3 finally already! Xbox has had it for what months now?

I used to think that when you get a game so far like level 5 or up it would start to freeze more.... I was wrong again. I got NV on the day it came out and have been trying to complete it but it keeps freezing. I ended up rushing through the end of the game just to get it over with and start a new game thinking I could at least play for a couple of level ups and it won't be so bad. This was about 30 minutes ago, I left Goodsprings heading towards Primm (system was on for a total of 10 minutes) I got past the powder ganger hideout near Jean sky diving and it crashed. I shut it off and I just don't want to play anymore, I'd really like a fix but if they don't fix it I won't even be effected as I've been tormented by freezing issues and am ready to move on.

mmm...so I go to the shop, I pay 60 euros for a game, I put it on the shelve and I start playing with it after 6 months when said game would be on sale at 15 euros?

Interesting concept.

@ Southgrove
I purchased Fallout New Vegas the DAY it came out. I reserved it. I played it for awhile when I first got it til it randomly would freeze if I was coming out of a building or if I was in V.A.T.S. Then, about 2 months later I decided to pick it up again and try it out, yet it STILL freezes. There has so far only been ONE update since the game was first released. BESIDES! I shouldn't have to wait to play this game or put it on the shelf to wait for a patch to come out. If I have to do that it should be CLEARLY marked on the box when you purchase it "$59.99 for Fallout New Vegas Attention: Game freezes often"

If I knew that I'd have to wait for Patches to come out or for updates and such I NEVER would of reserved a copy and bought it right off the bat. Is Bethesda going to refund me $20.00 for waiting til they decide to finally release a update to make it stop freezing? By the time everything is set to work properly IF it even happens, the game will be considered a "Game of the Year Edition" and will be $19.99 or $29.99.

Anyways, I do understand what you mean Southgrove, its just something that I shouldn't have to do.

These are the times my game freezes:

Freezes in V.A.T.S. very often!
** It also freezes when I am running around and my FOLLOWER kills something - freezes when it jumps the the "Kill Cam" or the "Slow Motion Kill Cut Scene and shows the enemy dying"
** It also freezes, well, doesn't exactly freeze however when in the LOADING SCREEN it will just keep loading over and over again. The ROULETTE WHEEL keeps spinning and the Tips keep changing however it never loads anything up.
** Freezes when going down hills/cliffs ect.
** Freezes when multiple enimies are attacking.

All in all, still a GREAT game if the Freezing was fixed. I just got some action by Sweetie for 300caps. Now on my way to talk to Saint James and Dermont. Have fun everyone hope your game works better than mine for I have played and own numerous other games and this is the only one that freezes.

P.S.

I was playing the game while I was typing my last post and so far the game has frozen on me twice since I last posted (which was about 30/45mins ago) I have to constantly manually shut off my PS3 and go through the whole HDMI set up thing over and over again because of this game. Yet, I still can't stop playing it. It's freezing soon as I get out of Marco's Apartment Building where Pretty Sarah and Sweetie and such are....Actually, it just froze again....make that 3 times in 45 minutes. Grrrrrrr

froze 4 times now, this time in Helios One while Saluaging spare parts for the Bombers. It just froze when running/walking wasn't doing anything crazy.... Look at the times I posted... Freezing 4 times in the matter of what 1hr and 30 mins? Is it worth 60.00? You decide

Yup. Seems to get worse and worse the longer into the game you go. I'm seeing more and more smaller freezes (freezes for 5 secs or less) and I don't think I am half way through the game. I am constantly keeping my eye on the hard drive light as I play. Once the light goes on or I hear the hard drive being access, I just stop moving and wait for all the stuff to load. A stupid way to play the game though.

Yeah mine freezes all the time too, about once every hour for me. At this time I have to manually turn off the PS3 and turn it back on again.

However I had this same problem with Fallout 3. The only difference is that with Fallout 3, if I left it long enough (sometimes 5 minutes, sometimes half an hour) it would come back to life. No such luck with New Vegas though. I get a bit of warning sometimes that a freeze is imminient when gameplay goes a bit jumpy and then sure enough it freezes.

You would have thought they would have fixed the game engine in NV so this didn't happen anymore!!!

I know seriously! I ALWAYS have the exact same issue, I have to manually turn off the PS and turn it back on. That obviously cannot be good for the system to be turning it on and off constantly. Hope Bethesda plans on buying me a new PS if it breaks down.

I just decided to play a little bit today because I got out of work early and I started playing at 2:52pm and it's currently 3:33pm now and it already froze twice. I'm sure there's more to come!

I thought it was just my PS or just my game but I was at my brothers last night and he just bought a brand new PS3 and Fallout NV about 2 weeks ago. I asked him to put on Fallout to see if it freezes and he said, "That game is NOT going into my system. Soon as I got to level 7 the game froze non-stop and I have to turn the PS off by hand."

Brand new game, Brand new system....Same ol' freeze.

Won't see me playing this game again until the new patch and DLC comes out on Tuesday 2/22/11

Got bored the other day and decided to dust off F:NV, try an evil character. I had recently done the safe-mode system restore, so I had hopes of the game running smoothly.

Just like my first playthrough, I never made it out of goodsprings before the game locked up, what a load of garbage.

I killed the town's people with the powder gangers, went to enter the town saloon, and the game froze during the load screen...

So far I am 2 for 2 on both playthroughs with this game freezing during the tutorial!!! Once was the release night, then now, after all these "patches"

Is it safe for (me) a person with no knowledge about game design to laugh in mockery yet?

I know I don't know about what it takes to make a good game but over the last two Fall Outs I certainly feel like I have learned about what it takes to make a bad game. OR if you prefer as I do an AWESOME game with crippling flaws....

I think through all of this they have unknowingly made themeselves laughing stocks. I just cant respect these fella's no more...if its so hard to do it right on this level maybe they are just out of their league. I would gladly take a less ambitious version of Fall Out IF and only if it works.

The only thing about this that makes me smile is that I KNOW that the Fall Out brand has the steam to survive this seriously messed up period in its life.

It's their marketing department that should be the laughing stock really.. all games are in this state while they are being developed, few are pushed out the door before they are mostly fixed.

I am experiencing the same exact problems as everyone here (and everyone that bought this game for that matter).

When I make a new character it all starts fine with very minimal lag/bugs/glitches, but the further I get into the game, and specially once I start reaching the end of the game, the game becomes sluggish and UNPLAYABLE to the point were it freezes and I have to restart my PS3 just after 20 - 60 minutes of playing.

This is sooooooooooooooooooo damn frustrating and annoying. How could they release something like this? What happened to "Quality Assurance"? Did they get omitted for this game??

This game is broken, and by the end of the game UNPLAYABLE Bethesda! All you have to do is play the game from start to finish if you don't believe the complaints. I guarantee you that before you finish the game your game would have frozen at least 15 times, and that's if you rushed through the main quests just to beat the game. Which by the way, people are left with no other choice but to do this, they are forced to basically abandon their goal in the game and just rush and try to finish it before they go crazy out of frustration.

Always remember this Bethesda (or whoever is responsible for this atrocity), all the content in the world will NEVER justify releasing a broken UNPLAYABLE game. If you are always frustrated and annoyed by the bugs/crashes/glitches/freezes you will NEVER enjoy that content. Keep that in mind next time you decide to release and unfinished game.

One other thing I forgot to mention: I own over 40 different PS3 games; Fallout: New Vegas and Fallout 3: Game of the Year Edition are the ONLY games that have these kind of crashing/freezing problems. I think that says it all...

I took almost 3 months off this game because It would freeze as soon as I take 3 or 4 steps. I just loaded it up last night and downloaded the updates. This time I was able to take about 5 steps until it froze again. Great improvements. Back to Gran Turismo/Assassin's Creed I go. What a loss of money!

Exact same for me.

Since there is no available recourse for this, I for one will not be purchasing any more Bethesda or Obsidian games new. If I do ever purchase any of their products, it will used, and I will purchase it from the owner. This seems to be the only option available to showing these companies that they cannot get away with selling us broken games...

The biggest problem out of all this, is the fact that Sony authorized this games sale, they are supposed to review this and be the last step to protect the customer. Sony approves the sale, which allows the retail stores to have the "no returns once opened" policy. Sony failed on this step, us customers bought an unplayable, un-finishable game, and there is no way to get our money back.

I had a similar experience just today.
I shelved the game for about a month, deleted ALL the game and save data and moved on to other games. This morning, I popped NV back in, installed and updated. I started my brand new character and got as far as the second water well with Sunny. When it froze, I couldn't help but laugh. It's just plain ridiculous.

As others have mentioned, I have serious reservations about ever buying a game made by Obsidian again.
