Converting nif to editable image

Post » Fri Jun 24, 2011 10:12 am

i did this once along time ago but i want to get back into doing it again, does anyone know how to convert a .nif into a editable file format like .jpg ? or am i looking at the wrong file type ? i'm just trying to retexture the skin to make a unique gun, like say "Gold slide sliver bottom, wooden grip." that kind of stuff.

Also whats the best way to go about modifying a weapons texture/skin or whatever you wanna call it but keeping it unique to that weapon only and not modifying all the guns.

Uh, nifs already have a seperate texture. Look at the texture paths in the BSShaderLightingProperties.

sorry man... i guess i need to be completely re-schooled in how to make a custom weapon look, i use to do this back on Counter Strike source, but i have no clue on how to do it in Fallout: New vegas.

also i'm using gimp to edit the skin. (its editing the weapons look i am after, like changing the slide to look gold/silver whatever and then repackaging it and making a unique name so it doesn't change all the guns of the same type. )

NIFs are the model. The DDS texture files are what you want to edit.

Alright thanks for the info, now that, that's cleared up i need to find a .dds converter.

well, i got it to work but its a bit too complicated, i forgotten how compact the skins where, can't tell the slide from the clip.
