Not local per se, but on local news in Kent.

Woman rings police because her snowman was stolen. Anyone who regularly watches Have I Got News For You will know what I'm talking about.

I can't quite remember some of the sillier stories I've seen, though our village did make it onto CNN a year or two back because of the "flooding": they showed a picture of a bus driving along the high street in what must have been at least 6" of water. Wow!

We had one in our local newspaper, where a local park had been victim to an arson attack. The title was something along the lines of "Arson attack destroys local park and will cost councils £10,000 to rebuild it" or something like that. And there was a picture of the park, after the arson attack . . . and it wasn't destroyed at all. There was one slightly burnt patch, and a lot of hazard warning type tape, but there was no major damage. Thought it was a bit weird.

The best one I can think of is over 40 years old. A dead gray whale washed up on the Oregon coast and the geniuses in charge decided to blow it up.
