Could Bethesda do a futurisitc sci-fi RPG [like starwars, no

Post » Thu Dec 08, 2011 5:07 am

Fallout = future, with 50s/60s aesthetic, in a wasteland =/= futuristic sci-fi.

Could bethesda do an open world game like they do, but with spaceships and planet exploration? :o

How do you think that would play out?

Could be pretty good if they do it right but my only problem is, that it would be a lot linear then TES or Fallout.

Sounds like an awesome game, aesthetically reminds me of XCOM but it's a huge open world right?

That'd be perfect with modern graphics (or even PS2 graphics tbh)

It would be difficult to balance the number of locations versus how expansive they are individually. Mass Effect, for example, has a large number of locations that can be explored on foot, but they are far more restrictive than the typical open world landscape we've seen in Bethesda's RPG. However, if Bethesda made individual locations large and open it would limit the number of places we could travel to - otherwise the game would be too big to be feasible.

I think Bethesda could find a balance they like, although I think they're hands are full with their current IPs and they don't need to consider a third right now.

Absolutely. There's really no reason why they couldn't.

Why the hell not? Replace lockpick with hacking, archery with laser guns, magic with bioticspsychic powers, bring in an interplanetary trade system because it's daft to go all the way to another world just to retrieve some guy's favourite tankard, and you're ready to go.

So they bring it out on multiple DVDs... it's not like monkey island 2 didn't ship on twenty-something floppies

If they bought up the Farscape franchise -it ought to be fairly cheap since it isn't going anywhere

*note to Gods of Zenicorp*

BUY FARSCAPE FRANCHISE!!

ahem.
:hehe:

they'd probably have to create a complete company just to make it, but it would be cool B)

Who holds the star trek rights now?

Bethesda made the one game but if they wanted to take it seriously they could probably do that franchise very well.

I have been wanting a Warhammer 40K rpg for quite some time. I'd love to join the Inquisistion, Imperial Guard, or chaos cultists. I'm not sure if it would be popular with many people though.
Also I'm pretty sure THQ has the rights to 40K for now.

It would probably have to be more linear than your average Beth game, and therefore have to rely on a good story to be successful, but story telling isn't exactly one of Beth's strongest points.

I think Cryptic does, however I remember hearing that the only problem with Star Trek online was it's exploration which is Beths strongest attribute and is also a main thing needed in a star trek game

Shivering Isles was approximately 4 square miles in size... 1/4th the size of Cyrodiil in Oblivion. I'd say SI's size would be large enough for a single planet's explorable area and they could have four of those without exceeding Oblivion, Fallout 3, or Skyrim's size. Add another two of roughly the same size, throw in some joinable factions, throw in spaceships, and perhaps some much smaller, separate locations just floating around in space and we're good to go all within a reasonable amount of content.
