Could Talius be the "new" Harold?

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 3:27 pm

For those of you who haven't played the original Fallouts (sacrilege, I tells ya!), there's an FEV mutant (just like Harold) called http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Talius in Fallout 1, who's a former vault dweller from Vault 13, who was sent out to find a water chip some time before the main character from Fallout 1 was tasked to do so, and ended up being caught by super mutants and dipped in the FEV vats. Instead of becoming a super mutant, he underwent a mutation like Harold's, escaped, and joined up with the http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Followers_of_the_Apocalypse.

Now, as Harold is firmly rooted to the ground (or dead) somewhere in the Capital Wasteland, this means that for the first time in the series' history (except Tactics, though there was a http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Harold_%28Fallout_Tactics%29), Harold won't be in the game.

On the other hand, the Followers of the Apocalypse ARE in New Vegas, so I wonder, could this mean that Talius might be stepping in to fill Harold's shoes?

On the other, other hand, do we need someone to fill Harold's shoes?

It'd be interesting to see another ghoum mutant, who knows they say anything about him moving east or what?

Maybe, maybe, I'm just hoping that if he's in the game he will be more than just a quest giver, (an example of a two dimensional quest giver would be anybody from bigtown)

Well, Talius sure is interesting but he could never fill Harold's shoes.
Only possible mutant who could fill them and then more is Marcus.
But it'd certainly be nice to see Talius again as well.

Talius sounds cool but I'll reserve Judgement especially if he's with the Followers Of The Appocalypse as I'm not a big fan of that group.

There doesn't need to be another Harold. Bethesda will kill them off eventually too :cryvaultboy:

I don't think harold has shoes to fill. A lot of people who play the game blindly (no guides or anyhting) they probably would not have even found Oasis.

You do know there are 2 other games that Harold is the star in right?

It'd be really bad if they just plonked Harold in New Vegas. His story is told. I'm not sure about Talius though, he never really interested me.

It was confirmed some time ago that Harold will be in New Vegas, by way of the Commonwealth Lumber Shipping co. He'll be the wood used to build one of the player houses, namely the "House de Mutant Corpse" in Primm. :)

[^Joking^]

Anyway, I don't really think we need another Harold-esque character in New Vegas. Hopefully Bethesda decides to make him a key part in revitalizing the Capital Wasteland (in combination with Project Purity), and honestly that'd be a satisfactory send of for him, in my eyes at least. I'd rather Obsdian spend their time coming up with new ideas instead of trying to come up with a Harold replacement.

I found Oasis actually without knowing about it. That's why soon I'll be off here because moments like that make the first playthrough one of the best, and if I stay much longer I won't have surprises. Anyway though I love Harold in FO3 (and FO2) but he's over East for a new title.

I just followed the trees, and being really freaked out because of them. Trees? In my Capitol Wasteland?

Whilst walking the Capitol Wastes I began to take damage, after a quick scope around I saw a green sniper attempting to pick me off from the top of an abandoned house. I easily disposed of him and looted the treeminder's corpse. It contained a note, "Oasis Coordinates", it turns out that the sniper worked for Mr.Birch to keep Wasteslanders away from Oasis. No guide needed.

To be fair, Bob makes his first appearance in Fallout 2, so it's understandable that you missed the connection.

http://planetmedia.gamespy.com/wiki/planetfallout.gamespy.com/default/uploads/e/e0/Harold.jpg You did talk to him right?

From left to right: Bob/Herbert, Harold

Back to the topic discussion, I don't think so. Harold was unique because of who he was, not because of some dumb mutation.

I wouldn't consider him a replacement, but I would not be surprised if he is in the game. Considering there are definitely character from FO1/2 besides Marcus, he is one of the only ones that makes sense from FO1. It would be interesting to see him having a unique appearance because of him not being a true ghoul.

It would be strange if that were the case. I would prefer that Talius and Harold were just freak variables. Both of them should be one of a kind examples of what random things could happen with FEV.
