Crafting Unique Weapons

Post » Wed Jun 06, 2012 2:33 pm

I would like to see a few more unique smithable weapon designs. Deadric weapons are fairly unique, but while the Nord Hero weapons have a unique color (as compared to the Ancient Nord Stuff) their design is seen alot in game. I think one or two categories would suffice, and I wouldn't mind if they got their own category like the Nord Hero weapons or if they were simply added to another material.

I would love to be able to craft my own unique looking weapons and armour but the problem is (I'm just guessing) that the game has to be able to know already what the design will be and that you cannot create an item that the game has not already had loaded onto it. This isnt a problem for PC as Mods can be downloaded that have unique weapons and armour but for consoles its not likely to ever happen in Skyrim and I dont think we'll have anything in future games like it. However we may have a smithing option where we can forge items that we want and choose from a selection of preloaded designs that are unique in the sense that only the player can create them. However Bethesda will have designed them not you, your just picking a unique design from a list.

Simple enough, you add Appearance Slots. Introduce a whole plethora of items that you can craft that can be put in your appearance slots, from unique armor, to clothing, to weapons. Now you do not need to even bother assigning an armor/weapon class to these or putting enchants on these pieces as they are appearance only items. Upset that Dragonscale looks [censored]? That's ok, now you can wear ceremonial Ebony armor and not worry about breaking perk bonuses...

I'm guessing thats only for PC though. I meant that on consoles like PS3 or Xbox then your screwed. PC though I figured that it would be easy and if its as easy as you say then I figure I should go get the PC version.

This would have to be implemented by Bethesda. Appearance Slots do not exist currently on any Platform. If you are unaware how this works, for every item slot you have, you also have an Appearance Slot. You would place a corresponding item in the Appearance Slot and the model it would display is that, instead of the equipped item. Now, you do not need to choose between visuals or item effectiveness as you can have both. Granted "logically" or whatever you want to call it, this does not make much sense but it is real fun. You further do not need to only match equipment slots, but can add slots that are SOLELY for appearance (such as a cape/cloak, trophies, tabards, particle effects, clothing etc) which would further allow you to customize your player's appearance. The best thing is that usually with these systems, you can choose a headpiece that would disable the visual of a helmet - so you can see the 45 minutes it took you to get the brown angle and cheek width just right on your character.

gamesas really dropped the ball on uniques I think. there should be alot more of them in the civil war quest line and faction questlines. You should also get unique's for the "thane badge" weapons you get.

It's exist an pretty simple way to make items unique, add multiple texture layers as the dirt, scar and warpaint layers in face. keep the texture maps as similar as possible so blade part on sword and chest part of armor is the same place.

This would be an nice way to add decorations and emblems.

yeah I thought skyrim would have high customization but was disappointed by the customization options Iike this idea although I never played it I believe it's similar to two worlds 2 customization

I agree... I am a little disappointed that the Axe of Whitrun is just an Enchanted Steel Axe (either one handed or two handed) with no ornate design or anything that would differentiate it from any other steel axe that I could smith and enchant myself.

I'd like to be able to disenchant an item without destroying it and put a new enchantment on it. I'm not sure how this would make me more powerful, but I do think it would allow you to take favorite weapons and keep using them. A lot of the quest items you get are pretty weak magic weapons, but if you could replace the enchantments, you could make them a lot more effective.

I would also like to change the appearance of weapons you craft (as the poster wishes). Some of the shapes of the stock weapons aren't great looking and how hard would it be to be able to pick a shape (daedric, ebony/japanese, etc.). I guess that would go in the appearance slot. I'm on a PS3 so I'm guessing I'll never get either of those.

Still a great game though.
