Craig Boone

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 6:02 pm

Anyone else feels that Craig Boone is an overpowered companion?

Just with his normal weapon, he'll destroy anything in range, but once I equipped him with the http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Gobi_Campaign_scout_rifle, I swear that nothing can stop him. It's gotten to the point where I have to do very little to nothing in combat situations. Equipped with one of the strongest weapons, and with the best head piece in game he is a killing machine. He's a little emo, but with the completion of a quest, he's not too bad :)

I'll be honest with you, I've only recruited Cassy as different companion, but I doubt any of the other companions can match up to the badass that Boone is.

I love Boone. <3

At lvl20 Cass gets 100 guns just like Boone does. Give her a proper gun (This Machine, Brush, Gobi, AMR, All-American or whatever other end-game gun you have ammo for) and watch. Same for Raul with the Sequoia or Veronica with a Ballistic Fist.

For me it's a personality call more than anything, who I'd rather hang out with. Cass and Veronica win here. Normally I complete all the companion quests, then just stick with either of the ladies.

Boone is unreliable for me. When the [censored] really hits the fan, he manages to miss he shots all the time, then flees and cowers behind me while I fight for my life (usually happens against large groups of Deathclaws or Cazadores). He also loves to not sneak around with me and just charge head long against a large group of enemies, getting himself knocked out or killed and me, yet again, fighting for my life.

To be honest, I think all the (human, anyway) companions make the game too easy, at least on the normal difficulty mode, which is how I play it.

If he's too powerful simply remove any guns you give him. I personally love having Boon as a companion, we both were a red beret hat so it makes it seem like we're a sniping team. I like his back story and can understand why he acts the way he does. It makes me feel like I'm helping him to grow out of his situation and be someone better.

PC, very hard +hardcoe mode. Deathclaws, are still my number one threat besides Cazadors even with good guns at level 30.

Boone can still get his ass kicked if he gets mobbed up close. I've seen him die from mantises.

I felt like I was playing CoD with Boone.

I pick off a Deathclaw, he picks off one right next to it.
Repeat for whole road where deathclaw lives.

Of course I murdered him.

Raul and Cass both have 100 guns skill. Functionally there should be almost no difference between Boone's combat prowess and theirs (assuming you can get them to wear Boone's hat, if you can't, then Boone wins).

He's powerfull, but not everyone plays all playthroughs as millitant minded terminators, on a more passive playthrough where you're forced into one of the many seemingly required fights he at least gives you the option of not blowing the pacifist role you set for yourself.

Boone, being a hardened and bitter 1st Recon, I would expect to be the man as a companion. I like when he;s with me and an NCR tropper says "I wish I had a 1st Recon watching my back". They are some of the elite for the NCR, so it makes sense that Boone would be powerful. Although I agree, Boone can get himself mobbed by enemies and get owned quickly.

Unless I'm quick enough with a stimpak, Boone often gets trashed in my game, where he is good(obviously) is long range combat, he does better in passive mode while in sneak.

My character (as per usual) Is a medical doctor with most of his skill points in medicine, speech and science so I pretty much need that fire power at my back. On top of my lack of combat prowess I pretty much always wear a suit so I usually just duck out and have him do the fighting.

I'm fairly sure his OP-ness is down to a few bugs (he gets an extra +1 to PER each time he swaps gear, and I think there are other issues as well that raise his guns skill far higher than it should be).

Interesting. His gun skill can go over 100?

boone seems to love the "oh baby!" I gave him... I'm looking to maybe switch him out for veronica but he's more flexible in that he'll use a gun too... yeah they are overpowered.. I was able to clear out deathclaw sanctuary with boone and rex at level 18.. it took a few reloads in the area with the deathclaw mothers and alpha males... any more then 3 at a time of the big ones was too many to take in brute force melee combat.. the knockdown perk helps.. and of course my health had to be below half for the ferocious loyalty perk. Boone is wearing remnant power armor now, I'm wearing regular power armor. Boone would dish out serious damage to all the deathclaws with that "oh baby!" in close combat. Playing on 'hard' One swipe by any of the big deathclaws at me and I'm dead.. companions can take repeated abuse though.

He's the best.

Have you ever used Binoculars to scan the horizon and while scanning, scanned over Boone in your search?

He says, "You lookin' for trouble?"
"Um, yeah, Boone and I think I just found it." :D

I guess the game doesn't differentiate between rifle sights and binoculars.

He's only OP'd when you get him at early level (which most tend to, obviously) because of his bugged 'always 100 in guns' issue that makes his shots while moving very accurate at lvl5. Later, all (human) companions are OP'd relative to their major skills (melee, energy, guns, etc) and it's just a matter of who you like best character/VO wise. :) I've heard about the perception/beret bug but I've never noticed it. How do people know, anyway, since you can't see companion stats in-game? Or is there a way to do that.

Give Boone an energy weapon that's better enough to make him use it in favor of his default gun rifle, and watch him miss a lot more. I gave him the YCS/186 at lvl 13 once, and his shots were often so wide or high off the mark it was hilarious. Of course, when he did finally hit with that gun, it was still deadly.

Well as of now I am using Boone and ED-E as my followers. Both Boone and I am wearing full Veteran Ranger Armor and Boone has the Gobi. ED-E has the upgraded laser from the FotA, and I have the Q-35 Matter Modulator. It is like playing on easy mode....but I like it.

Uh, I was able to clear out Dead Wind Cavern on Very Hard mode without Boone so I'm convinced that I can do just fine minus his companionship. I just bring him along because he such a damn cool character.

I LOVE Veronica!

Didn't have to do a quest to get her...she's easy to keep around...got her at low level (3 or 4 I think)...and she dominates in CQC. I don't even have the Ballistic Fist for her and she kills everything for me. Although she is unconscious often if she gets too many enemies on her.

I tried Cass and quickly went back to Veronica. Actually, I wish I never would have tried Cass at all since it's after I picked her up that I started getting froze up when entering the strip. Now I can't even advance any further until they patch this damned game because I'm completely locked out of the strip.

He can hog my ammo anytime for keeping me alive. I use EW so he can have all my .308 and 5.56 and i'll even buy him more.

Boone story: I was planning my strategy for Cottonwood Cove and was climbing around on the rocks all around the place looking for the best vantage point from which to launch my strategic attack. I'd hammer the place with missiles to soften things up first, you know? I was going to wait until nightfall to do it. So I'm sneaking around, getting close to the camp and Boone tells me we're close to the Legion and he'll have to take action. I tell him I'm not going in yet and he's cool with that.

So I find this great spot, not too close, not too far and I get settled in and turn to check on Boone and ED-E and they're heading down into the camp.

"Oh, I guess we're attacking now." says me. :D

It was so funny. We did prevail so his plan was fine. :D

Me 'n Boone strategically attacked and destroyed all Legion settlements in the Mojave, then raided The Fort and assassinated Caesar.
