Hello everyone. I've got problem with latest Fallout game. I've played this game about 50 hours, there have been few crashes to desktop - nothing special. But 2 days ago i've had problem that i could not play anymore. It has started in that way - at first, i travelled to nellis airforce base. After that, i've had many freezes (everyone for 5-8 seconds) and hangar's textures have got terrible quality. I've restarted fallout, thinking that will solve my problem. Of course, problem dissapeared, but it seems there's another one - everytime i'm playing F:NV i've got crash to deskopt - in 1,2,5 minutes playing. That problem appear at every save and every location. I tried to reinstall steam, graphic card drivers, reinstall the whole game and tried to do that one:
""Do these steps:
1. Click Start | Documents.
2. Double click: My Games | FalloutNV
3. Open a file named fallout.ini
4. Look for the string named bUseThreadedAI=0
5. Replace 0 with 1
6. Insert an another line beneath the above, iNumHWThreads=2
7. Save the changes you have made and close the file. [Press Ctrl + S to save.]
8. Click Start | Computer.
9. Double click: C:\Program Files (x86)\Bethesda Softworks\Fallout New Vegas, assuming C be the installation directory.
10. Double click the file named fallout_default.ini
11. Do the steps 4 to 7 above.""
Nothing solved my problem. Any ideas what i have to do now?
System specification - windows xp sp3, athlon xp 6400, 4gb ram, ATI 4870, sound blaster audigy.
In Event Log there's application error which has got number 0x0007796f.
PS. Sorry for my bad english

Hello,
I think I have a similar problem to what you are explaining.
I experienced this in both Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas. With Fallout 3, it seemed to occur at random, where the game would stop responding, return to desktop, a report message stating that Fallout 3 is no longer responding, and, usually, I can not interact with teh message, have to CRTL+ALT+DLT, return to desktop, then I have ability to interact with the message again. Oh, I have Windows: Vista (32-bit).
With Fallout: New Vegas (on the same computer and all), I did not experience this problem until late in the game. What I anolyzed and concluded is the following:
- farther in the game (if you often create new save files), more save files pile up, as with their individual memories (farther into the game results in larger save files)
- that being said, it could also be that even if you do not create new save files, the larger save files alone might cause the following
- when a certain point is reached (it seems to be approximately 100 save files, 1 being the beginning of the game [low save file memory] to 100, being near the end [high save file memory], or about 30 with near end game files alone), the game begins to start crashing
- I have theorized that the save files, as I have talked about, cause this
- I experimented by removing the majority of my save files (moving them onto an external hard drive), and leaving only a few in the proper folder, resulting in only those being accessed by the game
- the results were good: the game stopped crashing (this is for New Vegas -- I have not tried for Fallout 3)
- but, once I start making more files, and these files were large size due to my position in the game, the crashes started again
So, I would try that (it is what I am doing).
Although, I also have experienced one or two consistent crashes in specific areas and events (The Fort after interacting with the traveling merchant there).
To do what I did, go to where your saved files are located. If Vista, probably in My Documents/My Games/FalloutNV/Saves.
Select only the files you do not need anymore. I would recommend keeping them, such as moving them to another folder, simply. Only keep a few files, or one, that you need to continue (the most recent, maybe). Or just delete the ones you don't want.
Make sure you DO NOT delete the two autosave files.
