Crashing On Start-Up

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 2:34 am

I'm a special situation here. I've got a Macbook Air 13" running Windows 7 64-bit. I've never had problems running games. Ever. Games from Crysis (and Crysis 2) to Mass Effect run well on my computer, and they don't meet the specified CPU requirements. That is because the MBA utilizes an Intel Core 2 Duo with a 1.86GHz processor rated at 3.7GHz. Even GTAIV runs on the MBA with around 20FPS at 1200x600. So, why doesn't Brink work?
And, I know what you're thinking--MBA? Well, yes. I've purchased most every major Bethesda game and expansion since TES3 for the PC--and every one has run at LEAST at 28FPS. But Brink won't even load. It basically gives me this:
"The current video card / driver combination does not support the necessary features: GL_ARB_texture"
I just want to get my Brink fix on the go, whether it's got to be 1400x900 with low quality or 800x600 on high quality.
I realize this has something having to do with Open GL. But this is one thing preventing me from playing the game. Anyone have a fix? I've actually heard of more people with better graphics cards (1GB DDR3) than mine having the same exact error. Is anyone else having this error?
Anyway thanks,
Jakey Bee

Have you checked for any driver updates regarding your video? I would just make sure you are running up to date. I would also check to see if other games are still running after receiving that error message.

Oh yeah, I'm on the latest driver. TESIV still runs like a charm, so does FO3 and NV. I'm getting 60FPS on TESIV with all settings on high, FO3 and NV are on high (except shadows on medium) getting 29FPS, so no problems there.
EDIT: Crysis is also running with all settings on medium at 35FPS. I'd already checked about an hour before posting this, but I just decided to try Crysis just in case.

Anyway, I'll be home soon (I'm at work right now) and I'll tell you if the game runs on my desktop PC, which has very similar hardware (not specs)--Intel processor (3.33GHz), Nvidia graphics card (better than MBA, 1GB DDR3) and 6GB of DDR3 ram.
I just hope this gets fixed. It technically meets all the specs required for the game with the rated processor.
Though it probably will run on my home desktop PC--I was really hoping this game would run on the go. Business is really slow at work right now, and I work alone D:

I am curious if maybe if there is some sort of compat issue with the Mac for the game. I am not familiar with Macs, so... I couldn't tell you.

Anyone else here with a Mac able to play?

Crossing my fingers for you bud. Hopefully you won't have any issues.

Well, I know for a fact Brink works on MBPs that are running on 2.3GHz Intel processors--same with mine, not even 2.4GHz--so it's not that issue either: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZdTZcLH9G9c.
And, for clarification--I am running Windows standalone in Bootcamp, not any emulators that take up half my ram. I have full specs on BC. Latest drivers available. Etc.
I'm downloading Brink off of Steam onto my tower PC as we speak. We'll see what happens.
