So, I had preloaded the game. Went through the decrypting etc fine, then I go to launch.

I can get to the launch window where I select settings etc, then start it up.

I get to the first screen where it has copyright information and whatnot, then a few seconds later, I crash. FalloutNV has encountered an error and needs to close blah blah blah.

Anybody else having issues or know a way around it? I'm stumped here.

Just updated video drivers via steam to 8.771.0.0 10/19/2010 Direct X 11

trying to run the game in 1920x1080 ultra high (all settings maxed)

It goes without saying that I really want to get this to run asap.

If you right click F:NV in your game list -> Properties -> Local Files -> Verify Integrity of Game Cache...

It will make sure you have all necessary files. I did this and got a message saying 1 file failed to validate and will be reacquired, then a popup saying Steam finished DLing F:NV

I ran the game again, and got at least a step further, but still crashed in the end.

Then, I ran the process again and got the same message, 1 file failed to validate etc. Still nothing.

So something is refusing to download I guess. I'm gonna try a reinstall overnight and will see what happens.

Didn't fix my problem, but it's progress. I suggest you all give it a try and see if it works.

Do you have ffdshow installed? It had an incompatibility with Fallout 3, and the latest install automatically puts Fallout3.exe in the exclude list. Open the ffdshow video decoder configuration, go to the DirectShow control option, make sure "Don't use ffdshow in:" is checked, select edit, find and select the .exe for New Vegas.

Similar issue. I do not have FFDShow installed.

I pre-loaded the game from Steam as soon as it was available, re-checked integrity after the first few crashes, had one file re-installed. I've tried close to every permutation of settings and it will not run under any circumstances. After the opening cinematic I have a load screen with a tip on it, and then it crashes.

I am having hard lockups with Fallout New Vegas, all three of my display shut off, keyboard locks, and for the first time ever, my vfd locks up forcing a manual hard reboot. I pre-ordered months ago and have been looking forward to the game since it's announcement, now, I can't even see the loading screen.

I ran a dxdiag but there does not appear to be a way to attach it here so I guess I will manually type in my system specs

I even followeds Jimnms suggestion of dealing wtih FFDShow before posting here. I have been a computer technician for over 25 years and have kept up with the industry after retirement. I have never seen anything lockup my VFD since getting my Mozart TX case and with 11 case fans and Arctic Silver where applicable (including the gpus), it runs very cool.

Before anyone suggests disabling NvSurround, no, I won't be doing that. It should not be necessary since it steps down to single monitor resolution on the center display for other games, including Fallout 3.

Both Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas are Steam purchases.
