Crashing to the XMB too?

Post » Mon Mar 14, 2011 5:27 pm

This game's got glitches by the number,
bugs by the score,
each day I try to get somewhere
and each day it crashes more
This game's got gliches by the number,
It's a game I can't win,
'cause the missions I do stop counting
and the game picks when to end.

Lately the game has just been crashing and not the freezing that makes me turn off the machine. I mean, I'll be watching my character shoot some bugs in vats then I'm suddenly back at the xmb.
This has never happened to me with any other game and it only started happening over the weekend.
Should I be worried?

Also, I've heard the above song too many times: we need a custom soundtrack option patched in for the ps3.

I have had this happen with many other games, but over the past 3 days I have had the XMB crash probably 5 times and hard freezes 23 times. That's 28 Crashes in 3 days! I don't think you should be worried just pissed that a company would release a game as broken as this one.

It happen to me once so far. Bethesda need to know about this and fix it.
There is something wrong with the game if it does that.

Just had it happen to me about 2 minutes ago. Walked through the door to talk to Senior Knight Lorenzo and was greeted with a black screen and the PS3 start up intro. I hope you have a patch coming soon Bethesda, every crash bringing me closer to just cutting my loses, selling the game and buying Black Ops.

Yea. My wife's been bugging me to pick up Black Ops now. She was psyched for New Vegas too, but seeing all the problems I've had, she's hardly played it. She has less tolerance for this kind of product than I do.
I warned her that Black Ops is supposed to be pretty glitchy too from what I hear.

Happened again, just as I was about to enter through a door; black screen, PS3 restarts and I'm at the XMB.

Freezing x38,everloading screen x21,XMB reset x 6= 65 stop-game issues since the game came out, unacceptable. What really pisses me off is the update dosen't do anything except lock you out of the Abandoned BoS bunker and stop you from scamming at the casino. Why do we need updates? Does anyone remember games from back-in-the-day? I don't remember Sonic the Hedgehog on the Sega Genesis needing an update or Super Mario 64 or ANY pre-net games needing updates. They had issues, sure, but not GAME CRASHING,SYSTEM KILLING issues. I might toss out my PS3 and go back to playing Jenga,Battleship, and Monopoly board games. I may even try to finish that Rubix Cube I started 20 yrs ago.

The update also seemed to have caused a problem that makes Raul's companion quest unstartable. I'll try it tonight (just picked him up; yea my screenname is savethezombies and the zombie was one of the last companions I saved).
They did the same with Fallout 3 if you remember: they patched up the silly and relatively benign glitches while never fixing the really annoying game freezing and other more irritating glitches. That game is still a mess.
That's why I'm regretting not getting the PC version: at least the modding community has their priorities straight and fix the serious problems. And you can do a custom soundtrack on the PC.

This is the last ps3... last console game I'm ever getting for anything they're involved with.
It's a great game but it stops being fun when you have to restart it every 5 mins (literally) like I had to do last night.

I don't want to tempt fate, but I've only had the game drop to the XMB twice, the biggest trouble is the area transitional freeze, VATS not engaging at times and the glitched quests.

I have Fallout 3 on Xbox 360 and although there are glitches on that platform it's completely playable, I have downloaded and played the additional content with that game, something I certainly wouldn't do if I had big trouble with it. At this moment in time I wouldn't even consider downloaded content for this game if they have the nerve to release some.

Had virtually no problems before loading the patch. Loaded the patch and the glitching became more noticeable and the freezing more frequent. Finally entered the Vegas Strip after about 65 hours of game play and the freezing has significantly increased and the game has just started crashing to the XMB. Hopefully none of my save data has become corrupt as a result of the increased freezing and crashing.

This happened to me 2 days ago. Just randomly wandering out in the wasteland, shot at a scorpion, and the poof, gone. Now Ed-E and Rex are missing also.

Love the jingle, I even shared it with my dad who is also playing the game on my system and he says it sure fits. LOL.

Lol

Nice.

Just remember to keep on quitting your game often. If you save, take a minute and exit the game to xmb and restart. This will limit your crashing. Especially if you fast travel a time or two. This game doesn't release texture memory very well and the more that gets loaded the more it bogs down and eventually crashes.

For instance... if you were to never ever load a game from inside the game, you probably wouldn't crash much at all. Instead of reloading a save, quit out and load from the beginning.

Bethesda won't fix this. They haven't been able to. It's the same problem with Fallout 3. I am pretty sure it's a problem with the Havok Engine and how they are using it. They can fix script errors and graphic glitches, but the memory leak or inability to release memory is something deeper. It won't get fixed.

I've got aroung 60hrs invested in this game and I've had three complete lock-ups (I considered myself lucky) but now it has dumped me back to the XMB three times in about 30 minutes...WTF!

Out of curiosity - what PS3 do you have, fat or slim?

As for me, I had a 60G PS3 die back in June after 3 and half years (my warranty had ran out 6months prior - typical I know).. I say this because when playing 'Fallout 3', 'Bioshock', 'Killzone 2' or even watching blu-ray movies, my 60G would drop to the XMB on a regular basis - my games would (hard) freeze forcing a reset, multiple times..

Now, I'm on 120G Slim (gotta admit it, it's downright fugly compared to the 60G) but I haven't had any dropouts to the XMB.. even 'Fallout 3' plays better on my slim - unfortunately though, I'm plagued by freezes galore playing 'FO NV' - I should mention that it was only after I reached lvl 30 in the game that I encountered the glitches, freezes or anything else playing 'FO NV'. Before that it was smooth gameplay all the way which shocked me..

I have a 120GB Slim (I think) and I've only experienced the freezing and occasional lag/slowing (usually close to a freeze episode).

I've had 4 XMB menu crashes, on my 120 gb slim. I also had a fairly smooth playing experience until I got further into the main storyline and reached lvl 23, I think. This is the only game I have that does this.

Finally, the answer I was looking for. I knew in the back of my mind there was something more to the freezing. The new patch won't eliminate freezing it seems now. I'll try these instructions when I play New Vegas again. Man, does that svck though! Knowing it's something completely deeper in the development of the game's engine, and not just scripts. If this is the case, WTF Bethesda/Obsidian. That's some bullsh*t.

No! Don't get Black Ops its about just as broken on ps3 as FONV is... so i decided im never buying a cod game and not another FO game for sometime after its release.

Those "instructions" aren't worth [censored]. I tried that when my game started to freeze up, and when the trophies were loading it said a bunch of weird code, and then when the warning came up about autosaving it said some random stuff about "default strings" and an INI file or something cannot be found. the game loaded up, I went to my most recent save and immediately upon loading it froze. so no, don't listen to him. everyone has different issues, so there are different ways of fixing them, not one ultimate almighty solution...

I'm not crashing to the XMB but what I am seeing a lot of now - especially when going to Freeside or The Strip is a black screen that lasts anywhere from a second or two upto 1 minute.. really odd too, I can hear the sounds it's just I get no picture - then it comes back.

For the record, I'm lvl 30, my save game file is over 10MB in size and I'm using a 120GB PS3.

I actually tried this.
I’ll admit it seems like a silly tactic: it’s like only eating a spoonful of food at every meal to reduce the chance of food poisoning. However, it got to the point where I was willing to try anything.
I found that it didn’t help with glitchy areas: Forlorn Hope was still freezing. However, the framerate did seem to improve a bit in general.
The only problem is that sometimes the game would freeze 15 mins in. I’m not going to save/quit every 10 mins.
I’m not terribly optimistic that they will (be able to) fix it either.

Glad I could lend a chuckle with my Weird Aled version of Heartache by the Number. Making humor of situations like this makes me feel a little less...
