Creating a custom Hireling

Post » Wed Jun 20, 2012 10:34 am

Hi everybody,

I'm pretty much done with my custom Hireling. Unfortunately she lacks the dialouge option to actually hire her. I apllied the Current and Portential Hireling faction and even created an own HirelingCrmeFaction(Copy of Jenessa). The dialouge option does not appear. I even tried cloning the Hirelings (Jenessa) but even they dont have the option anymore. I have looked into the dialogue tab, but I couldn't even find the dialouge line for Jenessa herself(though I am a bit overwhelmed by all those dialogues...) Would somebody please point me in the right direction?

So even the normal hirelings don't have their "Hire me!" working anymore? sounds like you messed something up...altered a dialogview that applies to hirelings or made your custom view apply to all hirelings and not just your custom one.

This is a great tutorial on making a follower, but I believe the OP is looking to make a Hireling.

Well A Hireling is basically a follower that goes through an extra dialog instead of just "Follow me"

For sure, but that extra bit of Dialogue is what this topic is about lol
I have made 12 custom "followers" and they work fine, but I'd prefer to hire them first, and this is where the dialogue issue mentioned.

Thank you all for the help! Since I found it I just post my steps for everybody who encounters the same problem:

1. Go to Character(Tool Bar) -> Edit Player Dialogue
2. Now look for "HirelingQuest" and open it
3. Open "Consider yourself hired"
4. Duplicate one of the Dialogues that has a Speaker NPC
5. Open your Duplication
6. Change the actor in the "Conditions" window to your custom Hireling.

I'm afraid that wasn't everything yet. Though she now is in my services and follows and fights for me,I don't have the follower command-dialogues available for some reason. I think it might relate to the RecognizeHirelingXX command which I have no custom mde yet since I can't script... If somebody has an idea feel free to let me know

almost all of the hirelings dialog have a GetIsID == (whatever specific actor name)

so you are SOL using the in-game dialogue unless you change the hirelings quest for all of jenassa's dialogue.

erase the GetIsID condition and change it to fish for voice type dark elf female instead. you will have to give your character dark elf female voice (obviously)

the locations for all of jenassa's dialogue is in hirelingsquest player dialogue and also dont forget the misc tab for the hello's/goodbyes

additional dialogue is in the dialoguefollowers quest under player dialogue

Wouldn't that give ALL female dark elves in the game the dialog?

no only ones that have PotentialHireling faction in them (it's also in all of the hireling dialogue conditions)

in vanilla skyrim jenassa is the only one that fits this description (so none of the other npcs will be affected). so you can create a new hireling with that faction and dark elf voice and it will be picked up by the quest dialogue

the real downside to doing it this way is that it creates an incompatibility footprint by altering the vanilla dialogue quests. so anyone else's mod who tries to edit the same quest for their own female hirelings would be incompatible.

the only way to make a compatible mod with default hireling voices is to create a new quest and copy all of the voice data into your own folder and rename them according to the topic info ID. it's a REAL PIA, but it is entirely possible (as i have already done so for my mod)
