Creating a Wood Elf

Post » Mon Jun 04, 2012 4:40 am

Now, I know what I basically want.. but in my head I think I have too many "main" skills. IE. Skills I want to max out/get good at 1st. Which are...

Alchemy
Archery
Light Armor
One-Handed (for CQC)
Sneak

I've been possibly thinking even adopting Illusion (for Detect Life magic). So it can make sneaking a bit easier and manageable.

Do you think these skills alone are fine? Let me hear your thoughts! :D

Of perked smart I believe it will be a good build, but beware that you can only expect to fully perk 3-4 skill trees(at level 50) so I recomend that you do a little research and decide which perks are most important since you probably wont have use for all the perks in a tree.
As for havong to many main skills: Not at all. I focus on Restoration, 2-handed, heavy armor, smiting and destruction and I still have to use other skills like speech and block to reach level 50. I think it requires about 6-7 skills too reach the soft cap.

I'm doing something similar to this except I'm also doing Smithing and Conjuration as well.

Really fun so far.

Also, trying to create a name for him as well. I'm creating him as I type this...

These are what a name generator has helped me make:

Elbero
Faldin
Thaerir
Nalimir

Basically looking for a one-worded name. Nothing fancy. And something that just sounds elvish, and a "sneak thief" sound to it. Faldin and Elbero are the closest I've thought of.

I believe that's the standard Stealth Assassin build. I personally don't use Alchemy but it's still a good skill to use. I wouldn't waste the time with illusion unless you aren't doing the main quest, Aura's Whisper is pretty much just as good as Detect life.

I named my (now abandoned) Bosmer character Belloc. Think it sounds elvish and 'thiefy' enough. But one word of warning: sneak becomes obscenely overpowered really quickly, and you will likely get bored of one-shotting monsters. I know I did.

Thanks for the input guys! Really appreciate it. I think I'll just take Illusion a lil bit to get Detect Life and not have it hinder my magicka.

I'm not doing the MQ, forgot to mention that. I'm basically going rogue and venturing on my own. No companions, no one.. jus me. Can't wait to escape the frikkin' catacombs...

EDIT: My Wood Elf's name is Feldin. Faldin sounded too close to "Falmer".

Not sure why this hasn't been mentioned but Detect Life is an alteration spell not illusion. Hope that helps narrow down skill choices...illusion still has some good sneak spells tho.

Playing this race for a while now, mine got smithing as well and also leveling enchanting with trainers since its the least Id say relevant for thief-assassin build. Planning to fully perk sneak. My priorities are:

Sneak-archery-1handed-alchemy-smithing-light armor-enchanting-illusion.

Bear in mind that in these games, you don't really HAVE to plan a spec. Just play the way you want to play, and see which perks you unlock. Perks have skill level requirements so you CAN'T perk skills you aren't really using.

The exception to that would be alchemy, smithing and enchanting... since those are out of combat activities which you have to pretty much decide to do (or not). All three can be very useful... personally I love alchemy and can't imagine playing any kind of char without it, but smithing and enchanting are also very powerful.

Some of your choices aren't really compatible. For instance, if you sneak everywhere and take down your enemies with bows before they get to you... which is a very enjoyable playstyle... your light armor is not going to raise much, since you will rarely get hit. But that's ok, since you'll hardly need it ;)
