Creation kit and Modelers

You may skip that part if you want

Hello, everybody. I do apologize if there's already a post like that. But I must admit I didn't want to search. Tho, I am not lazy, I am just working hell and I'm being pushed too much, that drained my patience and stamina to look for it all.

onto the thread's subject:

So, I've been searching the CK for modeler tools, any kind of modeling support. I didn't find any. Can you guys tell me if there's any?

And, again, what models can I use for referencing my body modeling? specially head modeling. I didn't find any HEAD MODEL worth of working with for referencing. Can anyone tell me?

Thanks.

The Creation Kit is no modelling program, for basic models (anything but creatures and armors) you can use any 3D modelling program that can save as .OBJ or .3DS and then use Nifskope to add the mesh to an existing nif.

For complex rigged and animated models you need 3DMax or Blender, but currently there are no exporters for Skyrim.

For all your gamesas-Game modelling needs Bookmark this site:
http://niftools.sourceforge.net/wiki/

As for heads, open the actor and move to the tab "Character Gen Morph" no need to edit them with an external program.

Listen, I am a modeler. I work with modeling. I know all about this. And as a MOD developer, I was hopeful that the CK would come with some exporting and importing tools, mabe even more hopeful to see a plug-in for Maya or 3dsMAx. I already use niftools and I do use nifskope, bsa unpack. I know how to handle models, SINCE know myself as a professional.

The question here is if there IS any support for modeling. Any tools, any expoters. So far seems not.

And about your answer about facegen, I need a reference mesh to build my helmets. I don't want to create a head for the game.

Don't worry about the technical part, I do know.
Thanks anyway, it's always good to see someone willing to help.

I still wait for further answers.

You could always just export a mask or a tight helmet and create a quick basemesh from that to use as a reference.

There are no official exporters / importers at the moment but I'm still hoping that Bethesda will release it later like they did when they released Morrowind.

And I do hope that will be done too. I never trust in non-official plug-ins to work with. They may be 90% functional, but never 100%.
They could do a magic SDK with quadmeshes, at least the basemeshes for body and head. sometimes I get sick to remove the tris myself every time.

I use some detailings on my helmets. Some of 'em have a full head, skull shape, so I need a head to follow the general face construction.

What I meant was that you could model a basemesh for the head based on the size of the helmets. You'd have to import a helmet and model a head that would fit inside the helmet.

It's a relatively easy process, the modeling alone can be completed in 10 minutes.

Maybe that's the difference between pros and hobyists. The hobyists released new helmets weeks ago, the pros are still waiting for official tools.

But well, the hobyists also found the "meshes/actors/characters/facegendata/facegom" folder in "Skyrim - Meshes.bsa" months ago, and know that the CK stores a newly generated face as .nif, while the pros are patronizingly shooing people away that obviously aren't on the same level of expertise.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean by that. If a pro 3d artist is working on a Skyrim mod then a lack of official exporters / importers won't stop him.

Go to the Library window on steam and click "All Games", then select "Tools" from the drop down Menu. That will give you a list of all the tools you have available, the Creation Kit should be in that list.

If you're saying with this I'm a potential pro, I thank you. haha. XD
But indeed I was waiting for professional tools. Each milimeter I miss is a reason to dislike.

And about creating the headmesh there's something different about that. The MESH itself is generated. Bethesda knows HOW to fit the parts. Even the face has faceparts like beards and hair. That means I need to fit each thing. That's why I needed a head reference. Did you know if you have a long hair and equip the iron helmet, the system CUTS the upper part of the hair and leave the lower part only? I need to attain to these things. Clipping is something I don't want.

And I'm troubled ONLY with the head. I have all the body and limb parts to work with. All measured and proportional. I've imported from skyrim itself and tweaked so I could fit it into the game perfectly and with the original rigging. But unfortunately I didn't find a head model like this. That's the long history of why I'm looking for it.

You are not blind nor dumb. You're someone who doesn't know how to find the tool. That's something really different. If you were blind you wouldn't even be in front of the PC. don't put yourself below the others. You're better than that.

Follow what our friend said, and, if you need more details about it: it's name "Creation Kit". There's no "Skyrim Creation Kit" nor anything relating the tool's name to skyrim. Make sure you put it on your favorites. This way you don't need to shift from "games" to "tools" sections. You may select "Favorites" tab.

steam does not share cookies with your web browser, finding the CK has nothing to do with this topic, and try telling steam to check for client updates if the creation kit isn't listed in tools (click view -> tools) :whisper:
