Creation Kit constantly crashes

Post » Mon Jun 18, 2012 6:21 am

I have been trying to use the kit. My computer specs are basicly:
I7
12gb mem
geforce 570 1.5gb mem
Ect. killer computer. no problems with anything else. anyway, when I try to save, it states program not responding. This happens quite alot. or drag and dropping in the rendering window, ect..so my question is, does this program have a lot of bugs where im not the only one this is happing to? I really want to use this program seeing this is the first time i ever attempted to try. but, im dissapointed it keeps crashing. so, its not worth my attemption to create something when this thing keeps crashing. anyone have any input or ideas?

some hints right into the blue:
.) update your gc-drivers
.) check your windows memory page file (at least (!!!) 1.5*your RAM to work properly, which would be quite a lot with your 12 gig
.) check for programs eating up your memory in background (hit alt-del to bring up task manager)
all in all, this very much looks like some memory issue. your win does support your amount of ram, yes? (like, xp32 can't handle more than 3g, just for example)
but i can tell you for sure it's definitely not the computer per se, i run the whole thing on 2core / 4gig / geforce240gt~896mb (xp-x64) and it works like a charm. well within it's own known limitations that is of course ;-)

It says 'not reponding' a lot. Do you just leave it for a while? Just because it says not reponding does not mean it crashed.

I run on a dual core 32 bit OS. It takes a while, but it still works.

Creation Kit is randomly crashing on me too. Looked in event viewer and seems some kind of audio dll crash. I don't get it.

for the 'audio' issue, are you trying to edit dialoge, or anything to do with sound or speech?
If so, do you have a microphone plugged into your computer? The mic jack must be activated, even if its not used, or the CK will probably crash just like the previous editors have done.

This was during Actor editing window, but I'll try activating the mic see if that helps. My last tool was Construction Set so I'm not familiar with the mic issue. CS rarely, if ever, crashed on me on Win7.

FYI. I have a USB mic active through my webcam. Does that count. I have a creative audio card in my system. Even though the above dll is DirectX, don't think that's related. Thanks.

Plug a headphone into your mic jack on the audio card. or a real mic. Anytime you edit an actor, the mic must be active or the editor would crash.
I dont think a USB mic would activate the mic jack on the card. Try it and you might be surprised.

Thanks for the help...seems to have worked somewhat. I gave CK administrative rights and swapped over to my sound card's mic. Only difference is I muted/disabled the mic...because I saw the mic picking up noise, so I didn't want to feed any ambient noise to CK.
