I hate bumping so many times. I wish it could be addressed better than this.

Until the mods lock the thread down, which I'm sure they are about to.

I have this same issue - but I'm very relieved to see that others have this issue as well. I have not tried to remove any dll files, however - I'm afraid of messing with any important files and I would rather wait for Bethesda to come up with a fix for it.

Update: I got it to work finally. For whatever reason, there were three files missing. I found this out by using Soto's method of verifying the game cache. It performed a search, found that there were missing files, and then updated it. Not sure if this will work for everyone else but a big thank you to Soto. :)

Any ideas, suggestions, thoughts are definitely welcomed here. That way if anyone in the future has the same problem, they can find it on this thread. Verifying the files is usually the very first thing I do when I have a problem with Steam games. Each time I downloaded the game (thrice) I did so. But glad to here there is one less of us with the issue!

The Creation kit starts up fine for me and if I do nothing it will continue to run but if I try to load any data at all *.esm or *.esp then it crashes with the options to either close the program or debug it. Good to see alot of people are running it fine but it would certainly be nice if I could use it.

Windows 7 Ultimate x64
q9550
8gb ram
EVGA 470 GTX

Running a multi monitor setup here for development but pretty sure thats not the problem considering it only crashes when I hit ok or even cancel in the data files dialogue window.

Me too. Load the kit derectly through steam (and yes, im running 1.4, checked my skyrim files and creation kit files.) It loads fine, but when i go to load any data, it just hangs and i have to force it to close. I know im running the Skyrim Extender Script, could that be it? Im going to completely re download skyrim and the kit, see how that goes.

I just removed d3d9.dll , d3d9DEX.dll and dinput8.dll from the Skyrim folder (ENB and ScriptDragon) and it loaded the data files right up with the usual complaining. Running fine now so if you have any of these dlls then try moving them out of the skyrim folder and running the kit and just put them back when you want to load up and play the game.

That was suggested on the previous page, which works great if you can get the program to load. Unfortunately the majority of those on this particular thread are needing to get CK just to load first.

It was just the d3d9.dll for me. It loads data files just fine now with it gone.

You're lucky you can get CK to even launch.

I'm not sure why this didn't happen before but I Verified the files for the Creation Kit for the 5th time and it said that ALL the files needed to be reinstalled. Afterward it worked. Weird... but YAY!

please don't post in this thread (from here on out, present company excluded) if the CK crashes when you load skyrim.esm or any other data files.

This thread IS SPECIFICALLY for those who are getting the error message in the thread title BEFORE any data or game assets are loaded.

that being said:

JP: aside from verifying all files as per normal, try temporarily moving all the files (FILES only, not FOLDERS such as Data) out of your skyrim directory and then verify again.

backup and move your .ini file out too, and let your game generate a new .ini as well, just to be thorough.

Honestly can't fathom what else would really be causing it, other than something fishy in your skyrim folder.

Additionally, if you pay attention to the bottom of the CK window as the CK loads up (before the point the error box appears) you will see it running through the various data the program loads for itself. If you can determine up to what point data is still being loaded in that section, and what actually triggers the error box, that might help you figure it out. (by data, i'm referring to the data internal to the operation of the CK itself, and not game asset files/data)

may the force be with you.

Well I sure appreciate your help Sabat. I removed all files from the directory, attempted the backup of the ini file. Each time it does the same. It launches CK to the "initializing Windows" part and then "stops working." I then reinstalled Skyrim completely, patched up to 1.4 and redownloaded CK. Still nothing.

I don't know. It svcks and frustrating as hell, but I am running out of options and ideas.

UPDATE: I deleted everything. All files except the saved files. All mods, everything. Downloaded CK again (this will be the 3rd time) and THIS time it worked just fine. I did absolutely nothing

It makes me think that there are some mods we have that are interfering with it. The Skyrim game itself isn't being loaded when CK is launched, yet the CK files are placed into the Skyrim directory.

I wish I could find a freaking reason WHY this worked this time. The only thing I can say that is different this time is that I don't have a single mod downloaded from NexusMod loaded. Just a clean Skyrim and CK only.

Give that a shot folks. I sure hope we can all get it working right.

Hey. I just installed the CK through steam. When I start it, the black CK logo appear and it loads. When the CK logo disappear a windows message pops up. "Creation Kit has stopped working". I can either find a solution online (yeah right..), or close the program.

Anybody else had this problem and solved it?
I wanna start creating quests =( Please help

/Phil

Run a repair on Both Skyrim and the Creation Kit from Steam. That should fix the problem. Be sure you are "accepting" the 1.4 update and not blocking updates.

Also be sure there are not any non-CK created textures or meshes in your Skyrim folder. Non-CK content has caused many problems.

Downloaded it recently and it crashed immediately upon launch. I however use the ENB shaders and whatnot, so...

I moved the enb files out of the Skyrim folder and it works!

Also free bump
