Crime Syndicate

I have played through fallout 3 and am looking forward to Fallout: New Vegas, one thing I would like to see in the game or maybe a future DLC or sequel is a criminal underworld in which you can participate in or even become the boss of. One of my favorite features from fallout is the face to face confrontation and I believe that adding a criminal element would work very well in a fallout world.

You could intertwine the criminal world with drugs (jet, mentats, psycho) calling and participating in hits ( talon company merc and other factions) cap and currency loaning, manipulating the slave trade, manipulating casinos manipulating trade caravans, offering people protection, offering people shelter, food, and water. You could also deal with other gangs and other criminals and arrange meetings become friends and or business partners or even go to war and fight with others.

the face to face element would work well because you could have people that look up to you and people you think will betray you and maybe even kill you. This would be an easy way for players to make money in the beginning of the game or even ignore the whole criminal element all together. There could even be the option to play on the other side and try to take down these criminal enterprises for good karma or even for that matter become a mole in the orginization and play both sides.

There is also the option to have the characters intimidation and respect grow or decrease in the game. The options are endless and the player would be able to go with good karma or bad karma.

I for one would love to play that role in one of these games because I know you developers would be able to do it. The sky's the limit I would just love to see a mafia type element in the fallout universe.

please give your opinions maybe even add to the idea

It's not exactly going to be that prevalent, but there are gangs and other criminal factions that you can work with.

Well, they ought to do it.
If anything would survive a nuclear holocaust it would be the criminal underworld.

I just hope this game has some deep questing. I was mildly disappointed with Fallout 3's questing in that it didn't go deep enough for me. It had a lot of quests, but they seemed a little shallow. If they did have criminal activity it would svck if they simply made a dozen quests where you go and loot or kill and loot with no story progression or arc.

I also want to see the quests mean something once I've finished them, like people better think I'm a bad ass or hate me or try and kill me if they see me sleeping - something like that would be appropriate if I've joined Talon's gang.

Maybe they can buy me dinner if I joined the regulators, and then try and poison me because I killed their brother. You know what I mean?

The stories are just getting shallow since Oblivion.

haha great comment
i would just love to see a DLC driven by a main mafia type faction
i know this isn't going to be a major thing in new vegas
i just wanted the developers and some of my fellow players to hear my idea and hope to see it in a future title

This is where I think the perk that grants you money for turning in ears or the lawbringer perk could have been done better. They could have given you names of specific people that got more caps but the only way you found that out was finding notes on dead bodies pertaining to that.

Yeah, collect missions in Fallout 3 were incredibly boring, hated them because it didn't make you feel like you did any impact on the game world. I like when people take notice and interact with the actions of your quests.

Haha I just watched GoodFellas the other night and was thinking a mafia-like organization would fit Fallout well, especially New Vegas.

And in regards to the storyline: it's always nice to have a solid, in-depth story to the guild, but sometimes I just want to go whack somebody, or intercept a shipment or something. Basically as long as it has the randomly generated quests as well as the actual story I'm a happy camper.
Matter of fact, even if it only had a short, shallow storyline I'm still a happy camper. Just give me a bowler hat and a suit.

I like the idea very much.

Las vegas was built on crime, and sin. Why not add a bunch of that in the game?? :)

... I want to buy The Godfather for the 360 now. >_>

Anyway, I don't want too much attention on the whole underground crime organizations because that would make it feel very out of place.
A mob or two would be fine but preferably not on a grander scale.

im looking for the mafia faction to have a major role. I'm not quite sure of the scale of the omerta in New Vegas but I don't want to see it as some minor faction

Well every faction can't be major and be on NCR/Legion importance to the game.
I mean, I'd like to join Powder Gangers and Kings but I don't think they're going to have a long run of quests.

There is so much that can be done with a Mafia Faction, that I don't know if it could be added in to the game that ships, but a DLC or Mod would certainly be fun to see/play.

Just have to be able to be good or bad (as in work for them or against them) so that you can follow your Karma as it were.

Great idea.

as long as there is an option for good karma characters.

like going undercover for the new vegas security and bringing down the crime syndacite from the inside out

I was always abit bummed that you couldn't become the boss of any of the New Reno families by killing one of them after becoming a made man.

Those were easily the funnest quests in FO2 for me which is partially why I'm excited about the setting for New Vegas. I have fond memories of being a brute post apocalyptic enforcer for the mob.
