I'm with you.

Too much hype around here. I think I have already figured out the storyline, gave way too much away in that trailer. Movie trailers aren't even that spoilerific.

Most movie trailers give you not only the plot, but also the best action scenes, one liners, and inevitable resolution of the main storyline. You're being silly and overdramatic.

If you want to criticize the trailer, go for it. What specifically has been spoiled? What exactly do we know? We know there are two opposing factions- vampire and Dawnguard. We know some new skills and abilities. We know that somehow, the Elder Scrolls can blot out the sun, or something. Nothing of motivation or tangential lore is even touched upon.

Yes, there really is. Unless this trailer is not of the final product, and they rewrite it all before release.

I'm very good at picking things like this apart, I did media studies, waste of time that was, (and it ruined films and stuff for me :/), but I think I know when I hear certain hints.

There is alot to be gathered just from the voice over, listen to him carefully, and think it through. I'll bet you that you'll figure something out.

Overdramatic? No. Why are you essentially insulting me over my opinion anyway? "Silly and overdramatic" ? Because I shared my opinion? Interesting.

You are right about film trailers giving away ALL the good stuff, but game trailers do it just as much.

Just remember one thing when you are watching trailers, nothing is there by accident, it's all in there to create hype (the dragon busting down through the ice, the "mysterious" portal, I won't go on), but there is also a need to convey atleast a portion of the plotline.
None of this stuff affects me, because I am always aware of what a trailer is actually for.

I have to agree with Morgueanna. So what if the trailer reveals the main plot elements, the entire movie or game is not the sum of the main plot or a few on liners. Its the connection between events that drives the plot and gives life to the story and characters.

If all you see is the trailer you have no emotional attachment to the story that makes a story good. How did the story get there? What happened along the way? What did you learn about the world in which the story took place, and did you become attached to the characters driving the story so that same ending had a whole new meaning? It wasn't just sparkles and colors and a happy ending but it had meaning and resolution to a story that was playing out that you never bothered to watch because you thought you knew it all according to a 30 second trailer clip.

That seems like a waste to live a life that way, you would be missing out some of the greatest stories of our time. Go watch the trailer of The Departed and tell me it reveals everything the movie does.. if you say it does your just lying, because the story is deep, rich and full of emotion and suprise that the trailer is nothing more then a photo of someones vacation they took to the grand canyon but doesn't tell about the wild and exciting trip that took place getting there.

The dawnguard trailer barely says anything about the story. Whos that guys daughter? Why if she is his daughter is she possibly joining the dawnguard? Who the heck did the dovakhin get involved in all of this? How exactly do they plan to block out the sun with the elder scroll, and what deadric forces are behind this or against it? Will this reveal insightful information about vampires, or the origin of vampires that wasn't part of the Lore before? Is there going to be some wicked treachery among the vampires that will change the vampire race forever? Will we enter Coldharbor and exchange angry words with Molag Bal before he punts us out of his realm? The story possiblities between the tiny bits of footage which mostly only shows animations for new stuff but only like a 5 second bit about the storyline involving some vampire lord and his ?daughter? I don't understand how you can say 'I've already figured out the story' When the story has not been seen yet.

Once I seen a picture of the statue of liberty in New York, I thought I knew what it was and what it looked like till I went to NY and seen it for myself, the journey to the Statue of Liberty was just as much a part of seeing it as standing infront of it and thats the essence of a story.

Actually, I would prefer something about the Thalmor and more war. But, I do like the potential of hunting vampires quests. I can easily see the same kind of dark brotherhood quests for the Dawnguard and I always had a lot of fun with the DB.

Sorry, but it is just in my nature to dissect things like this, I watch a movie and all I see are the different ways the director is putting across the mood of the scene, the subtle uses of lighting, the way things are coloured, etc etc etc etc, there is alot to media studies, and I did pretty well at it.

If you think anolysing things in detail is no way to live, then I am sorry that my existence annoys you that way, nothing I can do about who I am. Seeing as I don't see anything wrong with how I am.

Fun.
My point is just because you did Media studies doesn't mean you're right.

Where did I say I was right? Please, point it out for me.

IIRC, I said "I think". Meaning, I don't "know", but I "think" I may have some of the story down.
End of the day, it's vampires, don't like it, but I still like guessing at things like this. It's about the only thing keeping movies fun for me, guessing the ending. (Not that it really matters, but I usually win "guess the ending" games) I don't even watch horror films anymore, so many cliches that it's impossible NOT to figure it out.
(Obviously there are exceptions to every rule, just covering my back. After a month around here like this I could probably write some airtight legal documents. :P)

Amedeus, don't quite know how The Departed managed to slip me by, but I'm watching it tonight, not watched the trailer, just read a 3 line blurb and it does interest me, got some of my favourite actors in it too. So in a way, thanks for the heads up.

People who feel the need to name drop (or profession/study drop in this case) are the ones who have no real alternative in a discussion to prove their position. When you have to point out in a discussion that you've studied a field related to the evidence instead of pointing out specific details OF the evidence, you know you don't really have a case, sorry.

Also, taking a class at community college or whatever doesn't make you more insightful. It doesn't mean you have a special skill. Anyone can 'study' a trailer or a movie or anything and get these same impressions from them. You really do sound silly.

When you're finally ready to actually discuss the TRAILER instead of your life history and why I should just 'trust' your opinion, please let me know.

even if the trailer gave the main plot away... have you really been playing elder scrolls?

do you not realize just how much else there is going to be to do BESIDES the main storyline?

Though I do agree with you about movie spoilers... Directors today don't seem to realise that a movie kinda svcks when you watch it if you see all of the best parts in the trailer.

So much fight over opinions! Come on dude! If you dont like dont play it

Unfortunately, I don't think it looked interesting enough to get me playing again.

No way to offense, but I think this statements dont add anything, at las you should say why not, as we are speaking of it.
Personally as a forum reader I dont care if you will play this or not, so, this kind of comments are just a waste of space.

Back on topic:
I personally dont like vampires, so Im looking forward this DLC, because the Dawnward will give a joineable faction to do what I most like with vampires: Kill them!
Crossbow looks nice too! Im more the archer type, but we shall see!
And in respect of the trailer showing a lot, the trailer shows nothing more than the main new things. The story... the story is the one you write in your game, and is unique to everyone. So te trailer is good.
