CTD After Bethesda Logo

Post » Wed May 30, 2012 11:26 pm

Currently running patch 1.3, I had thought the CTD bug was gone because they added the 4g ram fix into the game. The game had run for 15 minutes or so before crashing to the desktop, now it crashes immediately after the Bethesda cinematic intro into the game. Fixes I've tried so far: Removing all mods, Adjusting settings to "Low", Underclocking my video card, changing my sound quality to 44100 kHz and I've tried the most up to date nVidia driver version (even the Beta). Is there anything else to try? Anyone else seeing this same issue? System Specs Below:

Operating System: Windows Vista ? Ultimate, 64-bit (Service Pack 2)
DirectX version: 11.0
GPU processor: GeForce GTX 285
Driver version: 290.53
DirectX support: 10
CUDA Cores: 240
Core clock: 648 MHz
Shader clock: 1475 MHz
Memory clock: 1242 MHz (2484 MHz data rate)
Memory interface: 512-bit
Total available graphics memory: 2815 MB
Dedicated video memory: 1024 MB GDDR3
Total Memory Before Sys.: 4096 MB

Thanks for the Help!

Using the Skyrim Script Extender launcher fixed the problem for me - no idea why . Also, I always gor the crash after the logo the first time I'd run Skyrim after re-booting or logging on, but it'd always work the second, so I may have had a slightly different problem to yours.

Thank you for the reply. Oddly enough I was using SKSE for SkyUI, but after disabling SkyUI, I hadn't tried using only the SKSE loader by itself. It works with just the SKSE loader and all my other mods, minus SkyUI. My guess is the CTD was caused by an error from SkyUI when I accessed a menu; I saw this mentioned on nexus that this may be fixed in SkyUI v2.1. Thanks again for the help.

I am having the same problem. Where do you change from SKyUI loader to SKSE?

if you are using SkyUI mod, you should use Nexus Mod Manager to run/manage them.
check out the upper-left button/down-down-list, there's an option like "Lauch SKSE"

what does this mod manager do? set the priority load list in your launcher? just wondering because WoW addons curse client was so fail and as long as you know how to unzip and where etc. it was pointless?

I would try two things:

First, just delete the .bik video from /Steam/steamapps/common/skyrim/Data/Video/. Then you won't have to watch the bothersome Bethesda logo video every time you start the game.

Then you could try to install SKSE and SkyUI manually. The instructions are clear and should be easy to follow (if you know how to copy files to/from different folders). Should not take more than a few minutes.

When you are finished, just find the skse_loader.exe file where you copied it to and drag out a shortcut to the desktop. Use that shortcut to start the game.

Obviously you should use the latest SKSE and SkyUI that are both compatible with 1.4.27.

SkyUI doesn't have a loader per se. SkyUI uses the functions in SKSE (Skyrim Script Extender). So you use the SKSE loader to start the game (skse_loader.exe).
1. Install SkyUI (automatically with Nexus Mod Manager or manually by copying the required files as per instructions)
2. Install SKSE (copy the two dll files and the skse_loader.exe file to the \Steam\Steamapps\common\Skyrim folder.
3. Make a shortcut on the desktop to \Steam\Steamapps\common\Skyrim\skse_loader.exe. Use that shortcut to start the game.

This is all in the instructions by the way. :)
