CTD on equipping retextured robe

Post » Wed Jun 20, 2012 11:08 am

Tried everything from re-attaching the texture to a "fresh" mesh in nifskope, using different templates for the robe in the CK to deactivating enchants etc.
I also tried disabling all my other mods to see if there was a conflict there, nada.

A simple recolouring of the Mythic Dawn robe. Hood works fine, made with the exact same process.

Any ideas?

Thanks

do you have a normal map? I'd suggest double checking spelling. Also, I presume that the new texture works well in Nifskope? What if you equip your new robe in the CK, does it crash it as well? Also, I'd check whther it is set right in the NifSkope, both colour and normal maps in their appropriate place. Lastly, did you save the texture in the right format, mip maps and all?

These are the things that I can think of off the top of my head.

Hope this helps

The texture works well in nifskope, and on the model viewer in the CK. I'll check the texture format.

Thanks alot

Edit: texture is in the right format with mip maps, normal maps are fine, problem persists...

Normally the texture will not cause CTDs -- are you using a mesh from the game or have there been changes made to it as well ?? (meshes are more likely to cause CTDs - textures normally just will default to the default texture or be invisible etc. but not actually Crash the game - so if you have made any changes to the nif itself that is where I'd start looking ( also be sure you are using the correct Nif version when saving - sometimes it will default to OB or another game instead of skyrim which would cause this as well )

Made no changes to the nif other than the paths for the new textures, but I'll check the nif saving thing, thanks! edit: Not sure what you mean by nif versions, can only find one .nif format when saving...

Under the Render - General Tab make sure the Startup version is listed as 20.0.0.5 (though since you are able to open the NIf that is probably not the problem - was thinking of the exporter for MAX that has selections for what Nif version to export as ! )

Perhaps upload the textures and Nif to a host site and we can download and take a look at it.

Took a bit longer than I thought but found the problem --- when changing the Texture path in NIfskope be sure that Auto Sanitize before Save is unchecked (seems Nifskope still has some problems and if you save with it auto sanitizing something breaks in the NIf !!) uncheck it under Files - Auto Sanitize before Save and then remake them again and save and they will work fine (If you have more problems with it let me know and I'll send you the ones I made that now work in game !! ) -- So there was no problem with the textures just Nifskope acting up !! (I remade the once with Auto save active and it still crashed the game so then remade again with autosave disabled and now it works fine so pretty sure that is the same problem you are experiencing !

Good to hear !! -- surprised no one else has mentioned this type of problem since it seems that the setting seems to be on by default you'd think others would have run into this happening already. Anyway Glad it is working now and good luck with the rest of the mod !
