I currently decided to blow the virtual dust of my Skyrim and give it another whirl with all these fancy new mods.
On installing some of these lovely mods I attempted to test them by loading a old save file to which it crashed to desktop within a handful of seconds.
I then attempted to start a new game and same result.
I then went through the normal Skyrim CTD fixes
- Changing my sound quality to 24 bit 14410 (or something like that)
- Updating Drivers
- Disabling V-Sync and Anti-Aliasing
Still no prevail.
So I then decided to remove all the mods and just play vanilla Skyrim, both the save game and a new game crashed (I pretty much just get introduced to the horse thieve and hello sixy wallpaper).
I then threw in the towel and did a complete re-install and to my horror the issue still occurs.
So then at a loss I did the oldest trick in the "make my game work" book and put all my settings to low and surprise and behold it didn't crash.
Now before I use to run this on a High settings with the occasional FPS issues but nothing too nasty.
So what is getting me is why all of a sudden am I getting these nasty CTD when I attempt to run the game on something for appealing to the senses (mainly my sight).
Two quick side notes are that I had no issues with playing new titles like Mass Effect 3 (settings are on medium) and when I open good old task manger TESTV.ese is still chewing up system resources.
My specs are as followed
RAM: 4 gig
CPU: Intel Quad core Q6600 2.4GHZ
Video Card: Nvidia GT 440
OS: Vista latest SP (the devil's OS)
*Edit -
I stopped playing when the new texture pack came out which is installed
