CTD, was just working yesterday.

I installed New Vegas for the first time yesterday and the game would CTD and I would get the error c0000005 as soon as I started a new game or loaded a file from a previous computer. I updated my graphics card to the newest drivers and the game began to work flawlessly. Today I go and start the game again and I get the same error from before. This is extremely frustrating because I thought I solved the problem only to have it come back. What could cause it to go stop working again?

EDIT: Another anomaly: before I updated my drivers the game would recommend running that game at Ultra High Quality Setting. After the driver update, it recommended running that game at the lowest setting... but then proceeded to work flawlessly at the highest settings.

The Configuration Utlity is probably identifying the graphics as a Geforce, and the 6800 from nVIDIA is now very old, and never was well suited to running code with a lot of pixel shader graphics in it. Why it started doing that after a driver change isn't clear though. It should have been doing the same thing all along.

Well now whenever I try to start steam it says I must install a service. I hit install and steam crashes immediately. I get exception offset 005d787a and exception code c000000d. Could these two crashes be related?

Edit: I can connect to steam after it crashes once. Upon connecting the second time steam does not ask me to install the service.

EDIT: Just updated my driver AGAIN, and the game is working. I am going to restart my computer to see if the game still works.

Restarted my computer and the game refused to start again. I have to keep reinstalling the driver in order for the game to play. What the hell could be wrong?

I uninstalled the drivers and used driver sweeper to clean out the previous drivers. Everything seems to be working for now.....
