Custom Builds

Post » Tue Jun 12, 2012 9:24 am

A few custom classes I've created for those of you looking to try something new. I included sample builds which you can tweak as much as you want. Feel free to post your own custom builds in this thread, or thoughts/criticisms on my own.

Smuggler (pure Stealth Archery, total magic restriction)
  • Difficulty: Low
  • suggested race: Khajiit or Wood Elf
  • the unique spin on this build is that it's banned from any and all forms of magic, including enchanting, scrolls, and staves. The Smuggler engages enemies from afar using potent poison coated arrows. If enemies come toward his location, the smuggler will retreat and remain hidden-- careful never to go toe to toe unless he's sure to win the fight.
  • light armor is permissible, but remember the essence of this build is to hide or die, that simple-- so don't perk it too heavily if at all.
  • perk focus: Archery, Sneak
  • suggested craft: Alchemy (poison focus)
  • suggested stone: the serpent
  • suggested shout: aura whisper, throw voice
  • sample build: http://skyrimcalculator.com/#103845 (you're left with a few perk points to toss anywhere-- just don't put them into anything magic!)
Cleric (Heavy Armor, Mace 'n Shield, healing proficiency with Illusion buffs for followers)
  • Difficulty: Moderate
  • suggested race: Imperial
  • designed after the Baldur's Gate Cleric, this class may only wield 1 handed maces, no other weapon type allowed
  • prioritizes quests at temples and fighting the undead, abilities vs. undead are prioritized
  • the Cleric may not cast any spell from any school aside from Illusion and Restoration
  • the Cleric is proficient in Illusion, but only spells that buff followers or calm enemies
  • perk focus: Heavy Armor, 1-Handed (maces only), Block, Restoration, Illusion
  • suggested craft: Alchemy (beneficial potions only, no poisons allowed)
  • suggested stone: the steed
  • suggested shouts: kyne's peace
  • sample build: http://skyrimcalculator.com/#103852
Summoner (Two Handed specialty, Heavily Armored, deep in Conjuration)
  • Difficulty: Low
  • suggested race: Breton
  • the summoner is somewhat difficult at low levels, but is extremely powerful later in the game. The summoner is designed to wear heavy armor while wielding a bound 2h battleaxe, all with a generous pool of health. The summoner will conjure powerful minions to the battlefield to fight behind his lead.
  • may only wield a 2h bound battleaxe (if on PC bound weapon scaling mods are advisable)
  • perk focus: Heavy Armor, 2-Handed, Conjuration
  • suggested craft: Smithing
  • suggested stone: the ritual
  • suggested shouts: Call of Valor
  • sample build: http://skyrimcalculator.com/#103857
Pit Fighter (Light Armor, Sword 'n Board with Restoration, Sneak Attacks, and Poison)
  • Difficulty: Moderate
  • suggested race: Argonian
  • The pit fighter is designed to be a relatively straight forward fighter class, wielding a one handed weapon (preferably a sword, as speed is the essence) and a shield. The pit fighter is a grittier, dirtier version of a traditional warrior, and he is therefore open to using poisons and sneaking-- using the x6 backstab multiplier. The Argonian racial is a literal lifesaver on tougher fights.
  • No followers allowed whatsoever
  • No forms of magic whatsoever aside from Restoration (may cast basic healing spells on himself)
  • Perk focus: One-Handed, Block, Light Armor, Restoration
  • suggested craft: Alchemy
  • suggested stone: the lord
  • suggested shout: unrelenting force
  • sample build: http://skyrimcalculator.com/#103859
Psionic Ranger (unarmored illusion heavy NON-stealth archery)
  • Difficulty: High
  • suggested race: Wood Elf (Bosmer)
  • again, no followers allowed
  • no armor allowed (or alteration buffs)
  • no (or very few) points put into health
  • Perk focus: Archery, Illusion, Destruction (runes only), Restoration (passives only, i.e. avoid death, necromage, etc)
  • The idea behind this build is simple: Keep your enemies CC'd and snipe them-- if you're hit you're dead. Period. You're only going to have 100 health for the entire game on Master difficulty, so it's imperative you never go toe to toe with anyone. Ever. You have access to Destruction runes and passive abilities from Restoration as well.
  • Suggested craft: Enchanting
  • Suggested stone: The Apprentice
  • Suggested shouts: Dismay and Kyne's Peace
  • sample build: http://skyrimcalculator.com/#97200
Mind Flayer (Illusion, Conjuration, and Alteration-- makes others do the dirty work) *new*
  • Difficulty: Moderate
  • suggested Race: High Elf (Altmer)
  • followers encouraged
  • Perk Focus: Illusion, Conjuration, Alteration, Restoration (passive buffs)
  • Explanation: The Mind Flayer never takes an offensive action against an enemy, feeling it is "above" him to turn his hand on an opponent. Instead, he attacks the minds of his enemies, forcing them to do battle with each other, flee in fear, stand paralyzed, or lose the desire to fight. The Mind Flayer will summon minions and raise dead to the battlefield, bending them to his will.
  • suggested craft: Enchanting
  • Suggested stone: the Ritual or the Apprentice
  • Suggested shouts: Dismay and Kyne's Peace
  • sample build: http://skyrimcalculator.com/#103861

for awhile, i was doing your mindflayer type. and, it was definitely fun. but, it got very tiresome dealing with my "helpers" getting in my way, lol.

plus, after awhile i just wanted to get back in their and fight and not just manipulate everyone.

let us know how it's going and whether or not your interest starts to wane.

The Pit Fighter is the closest the I have to a traditional warrior, but the Cleric isn't too far behind. A normal, traditional warrior wouldn't really be a "custom" build imo

I have a similar idea to your summoner build.

But mine will use reanimated zombie only, and invest some perks in enchanting.

The Cleric build description cites a perk focus in Heavy Armor, but the accompanying sample build / perk calculator shows no perk points in Heary Armor. What perks would you recommend in Heavy Armor?

Thanks.

That's a mis-type, sorry about that. I wanted to point out that the Cleric does wear heavy armor, although unperked which is why I suggested the Steed Stone.

Redguard spellsword/adventurer.

Redguard racial bonuses,
+10 one handed (self limited to swords only, lore firendly)
+5 light and heavy armor
+5 block and sneak
+5 destruction

No archery, no lockpick, no other forms of magic

Only 5 attributes with a theoretical maximum lvl of 41 (42 counting a dozed skill advances in speechcraft) or 46 if I decide to use invest into heavy armors too

I plan to have my character join the mage guild and the thieves guild... it should be possible to play a thief even using only the "tower" birth sign.
Will do the MQ once I reach lvl 40+ just to see how it fares against dragons.

Other restrictions: carry only one 1 sword, 1 shield (wish it could be strung on the back like quivers... I think there was a MOD for Oblivion, I haven't seen anything comparable in Skyrim) and one suit of light armor.
