custom content vs customized content

Post » Mon Jun 18, 2012 9:30 am

Hi. I recently bought Skyrim just to use the Creation Kit. From Bethesda, the marketing has been that the Creation Kit is used to create custom content for the game and basically "this is the tool we have used to develop the game".

I don't question that this is correct but to my surprise I found that currently one can only customize content and not create new content. (With that I don't mean that one creates the actual content in the Creation Kit - this is done in a number of 3D packages)

To sum up:

1. Is it correct that one cannot officially import custom content into the Creation Kit to create characters, items etc.? <-- this is currently possible through unofficial tools such as NIFTools
2. Will we see such tools in the future from Bethesda (plugins, importers/exporters etc.)
3. And for now: Using NIFTools to allow for import of ex. a custom modeled bow, will one be able to upload this to the Steam Workshop for download by others?

Thanks for your input!

1. We don't have any official exporters / importers for 3d applications but we can use NifSkope like you said.
2. Hopefully (They released Max importers / exporters for Morrowind)
3. Yes

  • You can import custom content (textures and models) into the Creation Kit but you can not create it with the creation kit
It's also not very recommendable to use the CK for longer texts, voice, music and sound.
  • Highly unlikely - Last official exporter was for Morrowind.
  • Of course.

<- I am well aware of this, but maybe I wasn't clear enough in original post.
