Do custom effect shaders work now?

Post » Wed Jun 22, 2011 4:08 pm

Hey everyone. I need to put some effect shaders on robots when they die, so it looks like they are teleported away. Something similiar to the critical hit kill effect with laser weapons (or the death effect in Operation Anchorage), but preferrably bluish, and without the ashpile afterwards. Is this possible now? I remember that I tried something similiar in my Fallout 3 mod, but it was explained to me that they had 'broken' effect shaders, and that I couldn't make my own. Can I do that in NV?

Really? I've used custom effect shaders in FO3, I think you may have been misinformed. They definitely work.

Did they? Because I was trying to set up one that was very similiar to the OA one. However, all I got was the enemies would sometimes just flicker red when they died, and nothing else would happen. I guess I'll poke around and see if I can get them working here, and if I can't I'll have more specifics on what I'm doing. But basically, the player defends from a large number of enemies (about 50 total) so as you kill them they pile up and bog down the game, so I of course want them removed as you go.

They will not bog down the game. The game engine will start removing them before your eyes before that happens. It only allows so many carcases in a cell.

In my Solar Scorcer mod, I created my own custom death effects for the robots. And I created a new 'ghostly' shader for the ghouls in my Nightmare Realms mod. So I know they do work. They are just tricky getting them to work the way you want them to.

Man, tell me about it. Maximum taking the value of alpha'd areas as 0 is one of the things that had me stuck for ages.
