Custom model tutorials?

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 9:32 am

I'm new to modding for Fallout: New Vegas and want to try making some custom weapons. I already know how to model and texture and have the software to do so, I just don't know what else I have to do to get them into the G.E.C.K. in a usable form. Anyone able to recommend any good tutorials on how to go about doing that?

either blender or max have nif exporters that will export fallout version nifs. visit niftools to get the exporters. and grab nifskope while there too, as it is essential for working with custom content.

you are best looking at F3 tutorials for exporting and set up of custom assets. that said there are not any tutorials dealing with weapons in particular, well except ones that are basically crap imo. yeah they will work, but it's a while lot of copy and paste of stuff in nifskope, which isn't necessary if you set it up correctly in your 3d app.

It's dated for Fallout3 now, but Blender modelling process is almost exactly the same now as it was then (except now it's better, more save options, don't have to use the "swap the Ashtray TriStrips" method anymore.

The tutorial in my sig on Blender and Gimp will give you some of the Basics on modelling, and give you links to other good resources for Blender tutorials. So if you want to use Blender, Atristen and I's tutorial will help. Saving will be a bit easier, the options will be different and more specific to Fallout3/NV. The only Key thing that you need to remember is that when you Save your model, make sure you select the "use bsFadeNode as root" button. That done, it should be importable directly into Fallout3 or New Vegas from Blender.

Luck,
