Custom NPC Help

Post » Fri Jun 22, 2012 5:09 am

Hey everyone! I'm starting to get into modding, but I'm having some trouble right out the gates. I am trying to make custom NPCs and I would like to edit their appearances, however, I am unable to. For the preset data that I would like to change under the "Character Gen Parts" tab, I am only given the option of selecting "DEFAULT" from the drop down list. Any advice on how to fix this would be appreciated. (Would having a custom race be the cause of this by chance? If so, is there a way to "link" the custom to a pre-existing one so I can make some facegen edits?) Thanks.

I found out that my problem is because I am trying to make a unique NPC based on a custom race. My question now is, how can I assign different cosmetic customization to custom races that I have created?

Go into the game and go to showracemenu in the console. Play around and get the face the way you want it. Then go back to the console and type spf and it will export the face. You'll notice that there is an Import option in the CharGen tab, go there and find the file (should be in your Skyrim folder) et voila!

That's a nice little tip. I didn't know you could do that.

Just 1 question,...do you have to export it again from the CK ?

Nope. Takes care of it entirely. RedWood elf taught me that one (where is he anyway? He was one of the most helpful people ever, and I haven't seen him on the boards in months.)

Thanks Il Ducey! That's a helpful tip. I was also able to play around with the FormLists as well and was able to add my custom races, along with adding them to the HeadSet data, though the process was a bit tedious.

Another issue that I am having is that I would like to add some custom armor to my NPCs. The armor is from another mod (Redguard Knight Armor). I loaded up my custom race esp along with the Redguard Knight esp and created and "outfit' for that armor and assigned it to the NPC. When I test it out in game however, the NPC is naked. If there is any remedy for this, I would appreciate it. Thanks. :)

Are you sure you have the other mod loaded in your load order? That would do it...

Yes. I remember reading on the Nexus forums that you need to have the models imported from other mods separately. Trying to get it to work now, just having some slight issues with the models displaying correctly. I don't think I have the paths set right.
