damage multipliers for dagger sneak attacks?

Post » Fri Jun 08, 2012 8:49 am

When I do 30x sneak attack damage with a dagger, is the enchantment damage also being multiplied by 30? Basically I need a run down on all the factors involved in dealing weapon damage and how they relate to one another. Thanks.

No, enchantment is not multiplied.

How did you find out? If enchantments are not multiplied, it seems like there is little point to enchanting a dagger, since it already does so much damage with the x30 multiplier. In that case, should I be using the Blade of Woe or a Daedric dagger? The Blade of Woe has a higher base damage, right?

Correct. Also- no point in Daedric if you are using 30X damage. Steel will do. (save yourself alot of perks)

Why is everyone under the impression you HAVE to have the smithing perk to use the high tier weapons, the game is much better for me if I just take the steel and arcane smithing perks, or no smithing perks. Then just improve what I find.

To the OP, remember you get x60 if you power attack whilst attacking.

Where are you getting that number from?

Sneak critical with a dagger. You get x15 from the sneak perk, and x2 from the DB gloves, then you power attack bringing the damage to 60x. But I believe if you get an animation, it will already take the damage of a power attack, even if you did a normal attack. Not all enemies get assassination animations though, so you're better of power attacking all the time.

I tried a power attack; it still said I did 30x damage, not 60x.

Yeah it will still say x30, the damage before that is doubled.

Yeah it's as bobjim (wish I was cool enough to have two names in one Bro) said its x30 damage of what you initially dish out, so if your dagger does ten damage it's 10x30, but if you do a power attack it's 20x30.

I simply enjoy smithing, whether it's necessary or not. It's very satisfying for me to be decked out in armor and using weapons which I made myself. The point of the game is to have fun, right?

Yeah I got caught up in the smithing and started up the perk tree only to catch myself realizing that it will really destroy the sense of discovery when looting. Even though I continued maxing the smithing skill and selected the perks I self-imposed a rule that I could not craft anything (other then jewlerly) and only upgrade found weapons and armor. Much more enjoyable.

Thanks for repeating what I said, really helpful. Also thanks for the equally mundane point about my name.

Thats great then, if you're happy then do it. I don't enjoy being overpowered, so I don't smith. He was suggesting you would need to have the smithing perks to use that high level weapon, which you don't.

Yeah, there is. Power attack whilst in the sneak position, you will do double damage before the sneak multiplier is added. Also I believe when an animation happens, your damage takes the damage of a power attack, even if you normal attack.

I agree. I've allowed myself to craft steel weapons though.
