Damage Threshold (DT) capped or not

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 12:06 pm

Was initially thinking the Sub Dermal implant with +4 DT might be worth it depending on build/difficulty but read a few statements over many places stating that DT was capped at 45 max.

That combined with me finishing an unarmed VH/H play-though without the implant and without feeling like there were any serious issues I'm left to believe 4 DT is worthless in place of a more exacting SPECIAL where you may balance for minimum perk requirement while using your points at character generation more efficiently, let alone if you're a toughness taking power armour wearing persona.

With that said since then I haven't found a single "official" comment anywhere about DT being capped and am starting to think it was a rumour started by someone with no actual proof.

If that is indeed the case I will have to re-evaluate the implant.

How would the subdermal armor not "be worth it". The only thing it costs you is money, for which you get 4DT which cannot wear out and weighs nothing.

I can't confirm or deny the DT being capped at 45, but merely *getting* to 45 probably requires that you wear the very best (unique) armor in the game, combined with every DT-boosting feature available.

It's not so much capped as that 46 DT is the best you can get if you wear the best armor in the game, get the implant, and take the perk (Toughness) that increases your DT twice. That constitutes anything and everything you can possibly do in the game to raise your DT. I know this because that's what I did with my character.

Implants are limited in number to your endurance it costs a slot which if using less than 9 endurance means you cant take all implants, ignoring for the moment the healing implant is totally worthless with the abundance of all healing items food/stims etc some of my concept characters for example start with 4 endurance, some with 6 etc.

As I already said, I've completed a play-through on VH/H without issue, I didn't miss +4 DT, hell I think the gear I was wearing for that persona primarily endgame was only around 20-30 or so tallied up between the suit and helm. This isn't about "How to max DT without the implant" this is simply about "Is it capped or not?"

Nuka Colar Quatz(?)and Whiskey (with Rosemary) would give you another 6. Then you can also get stonewall against melee.

Or I can just mod a armour above 46 to see if it shows 46......

Ah, that makes sense then, someone probably tallied the best possible gear and when posting worded it in a way that caused the confusion.

Another element to this is I'm on PC and after playing through a few times now with vanilla I'm starting to use mods in particular some that let you mix and match armour pieces, belt X with shoulder Y etc.

I've been fixing them to remove arbitrary DT on for example a pauldron or arm guard etc that artificially increases DT by 2 points for example above what was intended so in my cleaned version all base suits remain the same and all "extras" have no DT for a purely cosmetic change.

I think the Max DT you can have is 50 from the best Power Armor, 2x Toughness, Implant and Whiskey Rose. No matter how high your DT is some damage will get through even from something dinky like a 9mm SMG. I think the implant is worth it in the end as it allows more freedom in armor choice.
