J'rahzir has spoken to good Nord friend. The Nord has told J'rahzir an old Nordic proverb... "Hit it with an axe and see if it argues." Start there and work one's way up until he finds a suitable item to destroy such creatures.

I don't know if giants have a specific weakness. I think they are just difficult until the mid levels...... (25 - 40) then again I don't know, I've never even tried to fight one. Saving that for a special character.

At very low levels (up to 10), the best weapon is to stay as far away from them as possible, unless you like being launched into the stratosphere. At higher levels, frost spells work pretty well against them - the spells slow them down and make it easier for you to stay at range while you hit them with arrows or other Destruction spells. I don't really feel comfortable going out of my way to take them on until my level is up in the 20's, though. And that's saying nothing about fighting their Mammoths if there are any of them around.

I did manage to melee a few of them with a Level 15-ish heavy armor Orc character whiel doing the Cursed Tribe quest, but of course I had the Orc chief plus my regular follower (Lydia) to tank for me. And on the last one, I wouldn't have had a chance without my Berserker Rage power. It was a tough series of fights - I died a few times doing them.

The best way to take down a giant is to use a silent approach, ware him down with poisons or better still, a weapon that can paralise. This one advises heavily against doing this to more than one at a time, but the cheese is so very worth it, mmm....

Archery. Just shoot and run, then repeat as needed. Also, if you're good at using werewolf abilities, you can outmaneuver them. I remember, sending one flying with a special attack which was silly since even a werewolf is not even half the size.

1. Find some outcropping of rock that they can't get over, but that you can.

2. Shoot it with arrows or spells until it starts to get close, then jump up or down the rocks.

3. If the giant is dead, stop. You win. If it isn't, go to 2.

"Hmmm....a hulking behemoth of immense size! Lets run up to it and hit it with this here mace-on-a-stick"

Distance. Distance is the key good sir.

I kill two head on with my Daedric Armor and Daedric Warhammer.

Takes about 4 hits though.

The best weapon is to run away.

Aside from that sneak/bow/poison. And/or conjuration. But I think sneak/bow/poison is probably best.

Use a shield and war axe, keep circling him while simultaneously swinging the axe.
And if he manages to keep up with your pace and swings his club just block with the shield. You don't lose nearly as much health as you would if he got a clean swing at you.
Rinse and repeat until he falls.

I killed my first giant using this tactic when I was only lvl 10 me thinks (Not bragging just saying this is a really good tactic).
This also works well against Dwarven Centurions if you're having problems with those aswell. They're slower than giants as well so they shouldn't even be able to get a single hit in if you just keep circling.

LOL.

Seriously, though - on low levels, run away, or do this. Once you've gotten into the 20's level wise, they start getting easier.

I dont think anything could really one shot you if youre at full health. I had an encounter at level 10 where a Giant attacked me after he fought a dragon. He attacked lydia, she sonehow disappeared, then came after me. He had about 35% health left. He hit me with a full on swing and immediately i was told 'health low drink a potion' my health went down to what seemed like death level, but then immediately gave me 30 hit points. He should have easily killed me with that shot, but the game didnt allow it.

Use a paralysis potion.
Hit it in a swift motion.
It will go down.
You can attack it.
It will go frowning.
You can attack it.
It will soon die.
Eat some....pie.

Whiterun guards, leading them in a populated settlement, sitting in a high place, fus ro dah slash and repeat, use that shout to turn mammonths on your team and fight the giants with your mammonth friends.

Otherwise, sign up for NASA barbarian space program.

On Master Level lot's of enemies can one-shot kill you. At least up until level 30-40 or so. Even after that depending on how much health and armor you have.

Giants certainly, but also Bandit Chiefs, a Bandit Marauder with a bow and arrow, high level mages, etc. And of course a Dragon bite. Lots and lots of ways to be one-shot killed.

At low level I usually stand on a rock and shoot arrows while laughing at the pathetic pathfinding.

My tip for fighting giants:

Sprint toward them, past them. They will swing and miss. You can turn and get in a few attacks before they recover. Backoff, Rinse, repeast.

I haven't even attempted to close up on a giant ever since that first woeful time I got clubbed across half of Skyrim. I guess I should give it a go again now that I'm about 20-ish levels higher and have alot more steel between me and that club.

As for fighting them, it depends on your character - my hammer wielding Orc will most likely attempt to Berzerk-bash the giant's knees to pieces while dodging the club swings, and finish it off with cracking its skull. A mage would be better off blasting it with an arsenal of spells (Orc knows magic is only for weak races, warrgh!), while a thief/assassin should attempt to sneak-hit-and-run-lather-rinse-repeat. An archer type character - well, that has been described pretty good already.

Bottom line, hit it first, hit it hard, and don't get hit back.

Any kind ranged attacks.

Use your surroundings to your advantage, rocks, trees etc. They are pretty fast but not too limber.

Same with mammoths.
