Damn heavy armor, u broken

Post » Sat Jun 16, 2012 2:18 am

So here I am, in the middle of this Dawnguard hype. I says to myself, I says "what say you make a new character? You can mess around with one handed and restoration, and heavy armor. Maybe even be a werewolf and kill those vampires, yeah?"
And it seems like a great idea. I love battle-mage like builds, and heavy armor looks sweet (steel plate, my friends).
However, it was brought to my attention that many heavy armor perks are broken, and thus are wasted perks.
Come on, Bethesda. Work with me here.

I'll probably do Heavy armor anyway. But what do you guys prefer, light or heavy?

Heavy is just as awesome as light, I don't see why you think it is stupid. Heavy armor protects you better and there is a late tier perk to negate the movement penalty. It truly is great.

Heavy. Once you have the conditioning perk there's absolutely no negatives to it.

Yup, the only thing is, if you like how the light armor looks it'll be better

that realy upset me is the fact armor cap can be reached by both heavy and light armor , so what is the matter?

I like heavy because it looks better and it's better for my play style. Then not to long ago I learnd that the armor rating cap goes to 565. Which kinda ruined my day. Because my first characters armor rating is 641. Also to me it makes heavy armor pointless when you can get light armor to be at the same rating.

I honestly prefer heavy armor, especially aesthetically. I just realized and heard that there are a few perks that you unlock that either don't work right, or straight up don't work at all.
Which just svcks when you want conditioning, but am a stickler about conserving perks for actually useful stuff.

I don't really disagree with that. But I just see heavy as a way to have better protection and much sweeter looking armor faster.

Broken? Every single one of my Heavy perks work fine, and I have them all.

I haven't noticed any broken perks for the Heavy Armor... have noticed that both of them are EXTREMELY solid when upgrading high-end armors.. meaning you hit the armor cap and there is no difference between armors

In short pick which one you think looks best , and chose whether you want stamina regen or stronger punches, then pick which ever class it falls under

Could you be referring to fists of steel? It is supposed to boost hoof damage by your gauntlet's AR, but it doesn't tell you that it's ONLY the base AR.

Who told you Conditioning is broken? Wherever you're getting this information is what's broken.

I've used heavy armor and I don't recall any broken perks. Have you confirmed this on the wiki? The only perk in heavy armor that could be considered useless is the hand to hand one since most people in heavy armor use swords anyway.

That doesn't mean it's broken, it just got worded weird on the menu, it still works fine, I've never lost a brawl, even against Khajiit. And I did notice the increase in damage.

This is true. It worked fine for me. Although you do need to open your inventory and go into your apparel when you load a save before it registers worn heavy armor as weightless and to move faster.

No, I know conditioning works fine, but it's Fists of Steel (which yeah, mostly just poor wording) and several other perks, like Tower of Strength that really just don't work.

This is a video that goes very in-depth as to the pros of cons of both heavy and light armor, and mentions the perks that are either broken or situational and potentially useless.

Note, all: I LOVE heavy armor, I much prefer it over light. I'm just looking at the hidden "cons" when it comes to the skill.

I know it's not broken, but I'm just saying that it doesn't TELL you that it doesn't take smithing modded AR values into consideration and that could confuse people.

Orcish and Daedric... How can you not love it? Once you hit a certain level it's all irrelevant anyway. ^_^

I have always liked the look of heavy. I mix and match armor types and clothing pending the look I want for a particular character.

I am on my 20th character since the release. After my third, in early January, I have not put a single perk in any armor tree. Not that they are broken, but I find no need for them. I get by with Smithing alone. That whole 'armor cap" mess is overrated.

I think Ebony looks nicer. I don't like the shoulders of Orcish and Daedric armor.

I love Ebony armor, but the helmet is really ugly...but Daedric armor, I love everything about it. I also like how Dragon Bone armor looks too

Alright, maybe "broken" isn't the best word. I just wish that some perks worked much more like their descriptions claim/
But I might just avoid perks altogether except for one or two into Juggernaut.

No, 'broken' is the exact word ot use if the perks aren't functioning as they say.

Tower of Strength is the only one I can think of that apparently doesn't work, though. And it's a shame, because it has excellent flavor, would be great in certain situations, and most importantly, it's one of the few perks in either of the armor trees that is more than simply "uh... increase % bonus if you're wearing all of one type."

As far as I know, Tower of Strength does absolutely nothing.

But still, Light Armour is superior because it has a better LVl 100 perk and the extra stamina then from the perk is good too.

Not that it really matters, armour comes down to being purely aesthetic.

This is the way I look at it. I have to invest in the Smithing tree for every character. This is because the only way to get some of the great armor from mods is to craft them. So, I end up spending the perks elsewhere. Even playing on master, I don't miss not having any armor perks.

Maybe I went overboard with how many are broken, at least.

But yeah, I wish that one actually worked, cause I would love to have it. At least it's variety, like you said.

That, and I'd prefer if the perks I had to get to get to the 100 perk would all at least work.
Because I really like Reflect Blows.

But again, I can live without perks.
