Dang vampires killing people!

I found an amulet mod on NEXUS that claims to do what you described. I'm using it right now but get the traveler appearing. no vampires in numbers though like I did before. I hope its working. my other characters will use the amulet.

It's called "Dawnguard No Vampire Attacks". I've been using it for many hours now, but the attacks still happen once in a while. I saw and killed that black traveler close to the market in Whiterun. Two vampires attacked Dragon Bridge while I was taking care of a dragon attack. Can't get them all I guess.

I'll take the odd one over entire city/town slaying. since using the amulet I've only come across the Traveler (twice) and random vampires in the wild that do not have names like the ones intruduced through dawnguard. Its a good sign. Before using the amulet I had a vampire attack in Morthal the moment I fast jumped there and rested in the tavern for the night. Have not had that since. Mapped to Riften 4-5 times. no attacks.

Well they wouldn't hug them! (From thread title. :P)

Like previous posters have said, only way around it is to save often, or turns auto-saves on. So you can just reload your entry into the city if they appear.

I feel you though. Gerdur died. :(

Next time you're attacked, can you please take a look at those two variables, their values?
(simply type in the console "help 3" )
You shouldn't experience attacks unless the script attached to that amulet randomly stops working.

All they need to do is have an option for essential vendors.

Hell I started a new game and vampires killed Belthor in White Run before I even got to talk to him and before the dawnguard quest. Did`nt realize it until a couple days past and the last save was 6 hrs earlier and I didn`t feel like going back so I got married as soon as possible so I could get rid of my junk. Very annoying to say the least.

You may be on to something, I noticed Solitude was never attacked by vampires. Can anyone else confirm that? Is there something in Solitude that prevents attacks? Curious why this city never got any attacks!!!!

Anytime I entered a city at night, I always hung around the gate for a bit to kill any spawning vampires. Rule of thumb - summon two Dremora lords (twin souls perk) upon entering a city. "I smell weakness" is your clue
Did the same as I exited a building at night. Thats why I have so many ash piles in all my cities, and they take 30 days to clean up.
Solitude was where my first attack happened so thats a no

Attacks are random and (so far) have hit most of the major.

It isn't that difficult (in my opinion) to defend. Only one I had trouble with was Riften and that was only if I went in as a Khajiit and not in my beast form.

How does this happen? As long as you have Dawnguard installed? Even without starting it?

The devs didn't want to you to get Dawnguard then just dink around and forget about its questline. They give you a sense of urgency i.e. the vampire apocalypse.
'Sides it shakes things up a little.

That is the main reason I would never purchase Dawnguard. Babysitting NPC's and having to do all these fast travel tricks to avoid random attacks? I'll definitely pass on that. The more threads made on this subject, the better. Maybe Bethesda devs will take notice and patch it.

i actualy don't mind the attacks. heck i was one of the ones asking Beth. to add bandit raids on towns for something to do. But the increasing number of attacks give my characters motivation to get up off their duffs and DO something about it. Ofcourse if you join the vampires you yourself will get on missions to attack and kill townsfolk. the higher profile the better. Yes it can be a serious downer when your favorite shop keep bites the big one. I lost Adriann of the Warmaiden's shop just the other night. First I got the 500 gold inheritence she left me then i found her body surounded by 4 thralls, 2 death hounds, 3 vamp nightstalkers and 1 master vampire. Looked to me like she'd earned her place in Sovenguard. On some characters the attacks are simply nuts. On others if they happen at all i don't notice them. heck one time in Riften all hell broke loose when the town went made as no less the three dragons, four theives and six vampires hit the town. :D Ah, good times.

But Bethesda say this is a feature! I'm with you on this one I'm treating this thing like it has Ebola until I'm happy with a patch/mod to stop it.

Well the PC players already have mods and console commands for those who wanted the DLC but could not be bothered going to too much trouble fighting vampires. Even if Bethesda patched the game, they are not going to remove a major feature, so if you are a console player who cannot be bothered or just do not have the skills, I doubt you will ever be playing Dawnguard. DLC is not made for everyone, maybe the next one will be more to your liking.

Yes I have known about the amulet since the day it was released on Nexus and you can't help reading it earlier on in this thread, and if you read it there is speculation about it's effectiveness. I must be a lazy gameplaying not bothering to babysit all the NPC's (because it's soooooo much fun to do, just crazy dood) or I must be dumb and don't have the skills because just typing in the timer changer may not be enough even the author of the mod wasn't excactly sure but if you know more please share it with us. Yes I did play Dawngaurd on the Kidbox, that's why I'm on the PC now because I disliked how ridiculous Beth. can make somethings and at least on the PC I can change some of the rubbish in the game.

I love Skyrim and I love my house, but like my house there is alot of [censor] in it that needs fixing.

And as for the next DLC I can't wait to see all the great features in that!!!

I think I got about 4 attacks in whiterun, the first I didn't even know about until I was handed the inheritance for the blacksmith girls death. I don't think I lost anyone else after that though. I didn't reload because her husband seems a lot happier without her (didn't seem to want to know me before, now he's always on about grabbing a pint together).

If you want to end the town and city attacks, then finish the dg questline. You'll still get random attacks out in the wild etc.

What speculation? The amulet works exactly as advertised in that it stops timed vampire/master vampire/vampire hound mob attacks in cities. It doesn't stop scripted vampire attacks near to Dawnguard quest locations or in Dayspring Canyon, random city encounter 'traveler' vampires, or random wilderness 'DG novice being attacked by vampires' encounters. But it stops the city attacks that are on a timer absolutely perfectly - I've been using it since I first started my now level 56 character, and have not had any timer-generated vampire mob attacks in or near cities in all that time. If there is any speculation about its effectiveness, it's just because people don't understand what it stops, and what it doesn't stop. It's absolutely brilliant, and stops the attacks that it is supposed to stop, without question. It is a good mod, if anyone is saying otherwise it's because they don't understand the mechanics of what it stops, and why/how.

When I had my solitude attack, those vampires got their ass handed to them. Literally every frikkin npc ran out of their homes, and man piled on them, and like 8 guards. It was ridiculous. I was worried at first, but I couldnt hit the vamps or thralls without hitting an npc anyway, so I just watched, and somehow not a single npc was killed. Solitude 1 Vamps -9000. Owned

How do you know a city/town is under attack?

It generally happens in front of you. The reason that the whiterun blacksmith girl died on me was that it was pitchdark, and I didn't see it happening. First I knew of it was the courier handed me the inheritance, and I thought it meant one of the women from solitude, so I decided to go find out what happened and found a pile of bodies just inside the whiterun front gate next morning.
