Dark Brotherhood Assasins

Post » Fri Jun 01, 2012 9:04 am

Well this is huge question which has bothered me. Both of my law-respecting characters have gain DB assasins to hunt them. Why? I can't figure it out and it's funny that characters who steal and murder etc. haven't even seen any of DB assasins. Who is hiring assasins to hunt every gallant hero on the ground of Skyrim and why?

They're part of the random encounters.

Because everyone of them have a note telling that someone has done black sacrament and paid a contract to get me killed. The note is signed by Astrid.

It's never revealed, and it doesn't matter what you do. A while ago, I played a complete pacifist character (0 kills). Didn't attack anything, didn't steal from anyone, didn't assault anyone. Didn't do anything of significance at all (unless you count chopping wood as "significant"), and the assassin still came after me.

I've racked up a kill count of 31.

All Argonians, duel-weilding a dagger and a sword.

Shadowscales are bad.

The dark brotherhood has gotten lazy recently and has resorted to killing any random adventurer who passes by, instead of actually killing their proper contract.

I just had an idea, can it be connected to "In My Time Of Need"-quest? I had this idea because both characters who has got assasins after them has gave Saadia to the hands of Alik'r warriors,

I now have 33 DB assassins in my body count.

All Argonians. What is going on?

Hey OP, go do the first Dark Brotherhood quest. When you go to an abandoned shack, Astrid says you cannot leave until somebody dies. Take that the wrong way, and you will get a certain quest. Finish that quest, and see if they still come after you.

You can't go wrong no matter how you complete it.

I just assume that it has to do with my escaping a state execution at the start of the game. Somebody didn't like that and put a hit out on me to finish the job.

First the assassins, then Astrid, then the whole Dark brotherhood.

Time to teach them how a proper elimination job is supposed to be done.

No - I've had attempted hits without doing that quest in two games.

Does anyone know if joining the DB definitely prevents further attempts?

As a member of the Dark Brotherhood i must apologize.
The Black Sacrament was called for on the dragonborn, and the Dark Lady's request for blood cannot go unheeded.

Astrid may have sent some of my brothers and sisters after you, but soon I'll handle the job myself.

See you soon.

huh! I've only played one character so far, and was interested in playing DB from the start, so, maybe that has something to do with it - but I have NEVER encountered a random DB assassin after 110 hours / level 40. I would suppose joining the DB would stop random Black Sacraments from being honored against you, then. Geeze. Something that actually makes sense in the script writing. wtf?! :teehee:

When I was a lower level I also got ambushed multiple times by some mercenaries, carrying orders to kill me, signed by Astrid... I didn't question it really; I simply thought it was because of killing bandits, which had obviously ticked off the DB.

I love these guys.

I kill them, take their note and dump it off at their Sancuary door. It's like saying to them (with my oh so subtile tone) "Thanks for sending me a personal combat trainer. I'll be here all week if you want to send me another".

I RP that it is Maven who hunts me down for gaining so much influence in Riften to where (I RP this also) the citizens are not afraid of her as much anymore and she can't do anything to me outright because she knows she'd get torn the eff up.

Actually Maven Black Briar will hire the DB if the player chooses to do a certain quest in a certain way. It's one of the very few RPG moments in Skyrim with some tangible C&C. Her name will be written on the contract, though. These are random contracts probably paid by the families of the countless bandits and necromancer slain in dungeons by the Dovakhin.

I think the DB writes down the name of the employer on the contract for "insurance" reasons. In case the assassins fail, the blame goes directly on who ordered the murder rather than on the DB itself.
