Darksiders I and II Thread Discussion

Post » Wed Nov 30, 2011 5:13 am

Hello everyone. If you are unaware, Vigil Games' new hash-and-slash/action/adventure series, Darksiders, was announced to be in the development of it's second entry, Darksiders II, which is set for a January 2012 release (2 years after the first game). For newcomers to the series, the plot is set a hundred years in the future after the Apocalypse has been started prematurely, and the armies of Heaven and Hell fall to Earth, destroying everything in their wake; ultimately destroying life on the planet. The Four Horseman of the Apocalypse, Fury, War, Death, and Strife, are the focus point of the series. In Darksiders, the Horseman War is seemingly framed for these events, but once learning that the Seventh Seal was not broken, seeks out the one held responsible, while stripped of his powers that you must restore. Darksiders II is set to focus on his brother, Death, sent out to prove War's innocence. This thread is to discuss the series in full, from events, plot holes, characters, quests, gameplay, future entries and more. Enjoy!

I'm wicked excited for Darksiders II. Death looks amazing.

However, I'm even more excited for the eventual Darksiders with Strife. I hope Vigil stays true to his concept, and delivers us an awesome TPS Action Adventure.

Death does look quite amazing sir. Also, playing as Strife would be amazing too, even Fury. I could care less that she's a female, anyway! They better stay true! And I'm sure they will. I remember before having Xbox Live that I would play Darksiders all of the time! Everyday, lol. What are your thoughts on future PURE RPG, where you can fight for Heaven or rule with Hell? Or an MMO similar to this? Just a thought.

Darksiders was a seriously underrated gem, looking very much forward to the sequel. It's pretty much the best Zelda game that isn't Zelda.

Though I would've preferred to play as Strife rather than Death in Darksiders 2.

It's Zelda, just really bloody :)

You get all the cool standard toys like a boomerang and hookshot(and a ton more). The dungeons are really well designed with fun combat, interesting puzzles and big boss battles.
The combat sure takes a lot of cues from DMC and GoW, but that's a good thing since it marries that combat with puzzles and non linear exploration.

The only downside with the game is that the first hour or so is just basic hack&slash which is decent but not spectacular. But when you get to the first dungeon and you start getting your first tools and powers and need to solve the first puzzles, that's when the game really starts to come together. Also the controls are fairly complex because you simply have so many tools and abilities.
Also has a ton of exploration and secrets to find and you get a horse to get around quickly.

But especially if you need a Zelda fix, but don't want to buy Nintendo consoles, this is the game you need to get.

Was Darksiders based off of something? How do you know what Strife would look like?

You can see all 4 horseman in the Darksiders comic that came with the game.

I still haven't played the first one. I even have the PC Hellbook Edition! Gotta get my controller working and kick some angle and demon butt!

I'm so excited for Darksiders 2, it's the feature for the July Game Informer. I've always loved Madureira's style (I have the Battle Chasers comics), and I really like what he brings to the game. I was amazed to read that for Darksiders 2, one section of the world will be as big as the entire Darksiders 1 world was! :o I also like how they say they will add more variety and customization choices (equipment, as well as skills) so that players can develop Death in very different ways to suit their playstyles. The article in GI also mentioned adding more NPCs to talk to, and a more open-world feel. I'm positively giddy! I think the cover for this GI is my absolute favorite so far.

[censored] yes! But I am a little sad we're not going to be playing Gaara again. At least there won't be an asspull as to why War dropped everything.

But I wonder, I thought War proved his innocence at the end of the first game? Will DS2 happen during the first game or after?

And I'm surprised you have yet to play it, Alaisiagae.

The article I read said that Darksiders 2 happens sort of concurrently to the first game.

I know, I'm surprised too! I ran into a little trouble getting my logitech to work with it, and then STUFF happened, like university work, and being ill, and not generally playing any video games. I was looking through my PS2 saves last week, the most recent had been from 2009. I didn't play anything in 2010 (aside from PSP games)! That's changing, now that I'm on summer vacation. Just need to pick up the PC gaming side now, too.

Yeah, II is supposed to be happening at the same time as the first. Basically, from what I've read, as War is busy doing his thing,
Spoiler
getting vengeance on Abbadon
, Death is supposed to be in the Abyss trying to return the Kingdom of Man to Earth.

http://darksiders.wikia.com/wiki/Strife Seriously, it will be an awesome game to have Strife; Mercy and whatever his second gun is, killin' demons and angels... that is the stuff.

Out of the four horseman, Strife definitely looks the most BA, followed by Gaara of the Funk... I mean War. It will be interesting to see how Death is like, seeing how he seems to be the most level headed of the horseman and the leader, from the comic. To make things more awesome, it'd be sweet if he was followed by the army of Man afterwards  . We got Death on our side, and we'll not be blindsided by a bunch of demons.

Just remembered another downside, no Mark Hamill this time. Man, he was such a great watcher.

Yeah, Strife is definitely most BA followed by War. I love War's look. He also has a sick ass voice. Yup, too bad Mark Hamill will be gone. Unless we see a mysterious apearence from the Watcher or a néw one, the 'Seer'! Oh well!

Yeah, Hamill as the Watcher was great. Might have a cameo, though. Oh, and while War did prove that he wasn't responsible for the Apocalypse, he is sort of boned anyways, because

Spoiler
Hell hates him for killing Abbadon, Heaven hates him for killing angels, and the Council hates him for screwing up their plans.

So it is basically the Horseman, maybe with the Angel of Death and Weapon Making Guy, against everyone.

Yup, reminds me a lot of the Lady Death comics. ^_^ Ah, I wish there was a good LD video game, that would be so awesome. Still, Darksiders is pretty sweet, too, with 90% less ridiculous female cleavage.

I love how barebones that Hammer looks. Just a block of solid concrete on a sparsely decorated stick. Suits Death perfectly.

The Angel of Death is Azreal, ad the Weapons Guy is Uthane.

Ah, there we go. I sort of knew the first one, but I couldn't remember the second for the life of me. He was a cool guy; apparently, he might have forged all of the Horseman's weapons.

Yes, he apparenty did. Seemingly, he may play a more important rule in the future entries. Hopefully, because he's a beast. I'd love to see Vulgrim use his knowledge in the future. I'd love to see Samael, and I know we will. At first I wondered if he was the new Lord of Bones, but it's impossible since it takes place at the same time. Unless his prison in the first game was in the Abyss, and he was the Lord of Bones? Just a thought.
