Dawnguard Faction: Good?

Post » Fri Jun 15, 2012 5:13 am

Just a discussion about the vampire hunters we see in Dawnguard:

- It seems they live in huge buildings, and seem to have normal furniture, etc

- Are they fanatical, like the Silver Hand? Or guarding a dark secret like the Companions? Or are we FINALLY getting a non ambiguous good faction?

- I think many of them prefer ranged combat, crossbows especially. Its no surprising, considering a vampires strength and skill with magic.

if by good you mean fight for mortals then yes. TES is like warhammer in the way that each side is good depending on which way you look at it.

I would hardly call the Tyranids or Chaos 'good'.
I guess the Dawnguard would be considered good considering they are fighting the most evil vampires I have seen in TES lore.

This is it. And if the vampires are trying to tap the sun... then that makes the Dawnguard even more good.

Dawnguard might be evil fanatics like the Silver Hand and the Vigilantes of Stendarr. I believe them to be the bad guys.

"From my point of view, the Dawnguard are evil."

Yeah, this. Good is a subjective term.

Sun gets taken out: Vampires get to do what like all the time instead of being forced to stay indoors during the day.
Sun stays: Mortals get to live. By mortals I mean the living ecosystem of the surface of nirn including living humanoids, animals, plants, etc.

Which of those is better? Maybe Dawnguard has always killed vampires whether they threaten others or not just because of what they are, but that looks like a decent enough reason to me.

I think anyone taking out a faction of vampires trying to blot out the sun could be considered "good".

I hope this is going to be a "Black and Grey: Conflict, like Warhammer 40k, The dawnguard being well-intentioned but extremely ruthless in the way they operate, similar to the imperium of man.
The Vampires being "Affably" evil, soft spoken, Polite, But Evil and Selfish, as they treat non-vampires as a food source only.

Not to be pedantic (yeah I know, too late!), but I do want to defend Bethesda from the non-compliment that they preach a sophomoric "it's all good, man" subjectivism of this kind.

Bethesda is consistently persuasive in showing the way that every national or racial group in a conflict will tend to believe that its own interests are synonymous with the good.

That's very far from saying that each of these separate opposed bigotries is the only kind of morality that can exist, and that "good" is simply a flattering name we give to self-interest.

They are bad! How could you kill a poor, defenseless, vampire lord.

Most likely they will be good, be cool if they actually worshiped a deadra like meridia so they weren't squeaky clean. I imagine them to be like the virtuous blood from ob (but a knightly order ya know) or the knights of the nine

I wouldn't mind seeing a mostly unambiguously good faction finally, a light grey faction if you will. Some members might be fighting just to kill vampires but many would be generally concerned with protecting the world. They should at least be less fanatical than the Vigilants or what's the reason for creating a new faction?

There's already plenty of grey and black in the game, let's have something closer to white this time. Real life conflicts are depressing and grey enough, I don't need that attitude permeating from every media form, all the time.
