Dawnguard Impression

Post » Wed Nov 21, 2012 7:28 am

Ok, so I just wanted to share that I'm very impressed with this DLC.

At first, I was like eh, Vampires and Werewolves, not my cup of tea, so I won't get it. Oh how wrong I was. It is so much more.

The brilliance of this DLC comes shines through when you have to head to Darkfall Cave. I thought ok, I'll head to the cave and fetch a bow, no biggie... hours later, after traversing beautiful and dangerous territory and meeting a VERY surprising NPC! (I LOVED that part almost as much as meeting a living Dwemer in Morrowind. :)) You end up in this ancient temple... wow brilliant story!

Oh and not to mention the frozen lake in the Forgotten Vale... YIKES with a capital Y! Epic stuff! :)

The Soul Cairn though reminded me a lot of Morrowind... I was running around LOST most of the time hahahahaha :)

Oh and I love my Dwarven crossbow.

Overall, I'm really happy that I bought Dawnguard. Hearthfire and Dawnguard got me back into Skyrim.

Plus, the guards FINALLY address me properly and don't think I still fetch the mead for the Companions. Not sure if the unofficial patch, Dawnguard or some other patch corrected that LOL

Ahaha, good ol' Serana has that effect on people.

I had a blast in Dawnguard. The crossbows took some getting used to and I often wanted to go back to my sword, but now the crossbow is my favorite and main weapon.

LOL well yea Serana is cool, too. I really like her because she has "Christine's voice" (from Fallout New Vegas - Dead Money DLC). :D

But with surprising NPC I actually meant the Snow Elf!!!! I mean wow, who knew one of them was still around!!!!!!!!!! I've always been fascinated by the Falmer and the fall of the Snow Elves, so yea, I was blown away when I met Gelebor. ;)

I actually thought you meant ANOTHER NPC who made a reappearance ...

But Serana. Yeah. Well, what can I say? She puts the "aahhh" in "aahhh".

I love the crossbows, too, but I think they're a tad bit overpowered. Even untempered or unenchanted they make a formittable weapon.

But that didn't stop me last night, just for fun, from drinking a few Fortify Restoration potions, until my Fortify Alchemy clothing was up to around 300% effectiveness. Then I made a Fortify Smithing potion. Then I tempered my Dawnguard Crossbow.

I'd thought to name it something like "Well-Tempered Crossbow" or "High Quality Crossbow" or even "Best Crossbow Ever!" But when I saw it action, taking out Frost Dragons in two hits and sending bandits sprawling across the ground, stopping vampires in their tracks like an iron spike to the face (which, on further reflection, I suppose is the case), I decided a crossbow of this power could only be called "The Finger of God."

May it never point in your direction.

LMAO!!!!!!!!!! I love it! The Finger of God! You know, I've tried pretty much everything in Skyrim., but I have YET to drink fortify restoration potions in order to smith uber gear! :D

Actually, I must be the last person on earth to know about the Fortify Restoration enhancement (I won't call it a bug because Bethesda has had plenty of chances to take it out and haven't done it). I only discovered it this week, on the UESP wiki, and tried it out on the crossbow for the first time.

I know what purists would say. Look here, MaxBat, you've gone and broke the game. You've made some uber weapon that can kill just about anything and now Skyrim is completely unrealistic. Completely! And unfair. You're supposed to die, and regularly. You don't deserve to be Dovahklin. You barely deserve to own the game. And guess what? For all that, your game is going to get boring now. Really boring. You'll stop playing, it's so boring.

To that I say: Killing Falmer with one shot never gets boring. Never. NEVER!

That said, I doubt if I use it to this level again. One thing it is good for, though, is making steel weapons and armor a viable option late game. Now I can wear what I want, use what I want, and I don't have to wear parts of a dead dragon or look like something that crawled out of someone's nightmare.

Thanks! I thought it had a nice ring to it, you know, like . . . oh . . . a certain Trident II missile. (Although originality wasn't the goal ...)

LOL hey, it's YOUR game, you do what YOU want. I mean, it's not like you are hacking an MMO to gain some uber advantage. ;) On my 5th character, I tried out the Oghma Infinium glitch/exploit with the bookshelf. :D Was pretty cool to "cheat" for a change hahahaha

Hey now, I think the Drakescale armor looks pretty epic, but I know what you mean. ;)
