Dawnstar Santuary Upgrade Question (Spoiler)

Post » Tue Jun 05, 2012 2:23 pm

So what is the point of the "Torture Chamber"? I've heard that the 'victims' will give treasure locations (I'm assuming you have to strike them.), but how does a torture chamber factor into the goals/mission of the DB?

I know they've strayed from the 5 Tenets, but I don't understand how the chamber factors into their eradication role.

I'm not trying to set up a 'flame Bethesda for a bad storyline' thread I"m just wondering if somewhere in the DB's history the chamber fits in.

And please don't start with the "Why put 'spoiler' in the title of a thread in the Spoilers section?". It's also the Cheats and Hints section.

OK, I'm not the only one who finds it odd then.

I only did it because:
1) I didn't realize it would have people in it - figured it would just be the 'stuff'.
2) I would've felt badly keeping some of the money and not upgrading the Sanctuary to it's fullest potential. :P

I thought it be a good place to kidnap amd torture my political foes. Every other Jarls seems to have one in their dungeon, so why shouldn't I?

It's also not bad for training Destruction. I can't remember off the top of my head if it "refills" or not, but if you have a decent Restoration school spell, then there's a bunch of skills you can train off of your... guests. One-handed, Two-handed, Archery, Destruction, Illusion, the list goes on and on when you are playing to a captive audience.

To anyone who disagrees with this on a moral level;

1) It's the Dark Brotherhood.

2) Refer all other questions to #1.

I think I've asked before and I think people said they just hang there dead.

I'm pretty sure a 1-H attack from me would 1-shot them at this point, but maybe I'll toy around with magic. :P

As for the morality: there's a difference between killing people quickly based on a contract and torturing people for treasure locations or other unstated reasons. Take mafia hitmen for example: they kill quickly and get out whereas 'enforcers' will torment/torture people who owe money or favors. Maybe we're both now. :P

Skyrim is my first TES game so I was just wondering of there was something in the history that would explain the chamber.

Nope. No history that I'm aware of.

But it is a nice little space to get some ... work done in between contracts. ;)

This is also my first Elder Scrolls game, so I wouldn't really know much. However, Delvin says something like "that's the DB I know and love" when you buy the upgrade.

Maybe that's where they deal with rats and informants. :P Until I hear a lore reason behind it that's the story I'm sticking with. I'm the Listener, damn it!

I did wonder why they had a torture chamber.
But It's cool.
I'm sure it has a purpose.
Maybe Babette uses it as ready meals or for a snack, lol.

I always buy it, why not.

Hmmm, could be. Since we're on the run from the Penitus Oculatus maybe she stays in now.

I've never played a vampire, but I'm guessing that bite marks don't get rendered when you feed? If so, I can check their necks. :P

Me too.

I think she prefers "free-range" sources. I'm willing to help her with most things, but I won't stick my neck out for her! :ermm:

Interrogating them all gives you locations to some treasure.

That's about it, really. The chamber kind of sickens me, but I tend to conjure stories that they're all horrible, horrible people.

Y'know. In an Amnesia, The Dark Descent kind of way.

I don't know. I've done quite a few so far and I think I only have 2 "Initiates".

I've only had the two initiates regardless of how many lumberjacks I kill. While doing the CW quest to get the dirt on Anuriel in Riften, I arrived outside of the jarl's keep only to be attacked by some "nightingale temple defender" dressed in DB garb, carrying the shield of a Riften guard! I wish I'd taken a screenshot.

I also wish I could incarcerate a trio of Thalmor in that torture, er, "enhanced interrogation" chamber in the Dawnstar sanctuary. I'd like them to experience their own brand of interrogation.
