Day 1

Post » Sun Dec 11, 2011 12:16 am

So far, the dlc has impressed and failed to impress.

Maps look good, founders tower is great, labs not so much.
Napalm grenade is a fail, little piddly paddling pool of fire easily avoided.
Weapons seem bit better now. thank you

Weapon shield....lol
bayonet i like
New clothes OK nothing great
Why arent these only available through unlocks, as in gain levels to unlock clothes, new challenge for weapon mods.

Either way thanks, and good work ..kinda

I'll be the judge of that once my download is complete. If the Napalm grenade really is a fail, I'll just switch back to an Engie/OP medium. Any word on the pyro mine, UAV, and the medic's field regen unit?

Wouldn't say it's fail. They could be great in tight corridors and if supplemented with a nicely timed molotov to force groups of enemies to sit in that piddly paddly pool of fire it will take down a sizable chunk of life and make them easy to mop up. Seems like a great tool for crowd control and are no more avoidable than caltrops. Just need to use it in the appropriate way.

I spent probably 3-4 hours last night on labs and founders tower trying out each classes new abilities and have nothing but good things to say about the DLC. EXCEPT that they didn't include any clan support whatsoever. Eh...

Founders Tower is Amazing and whie the Labs have some pretty useless spaces im wondering why they put in, they both look relaly good. The elbo pads on teh Sad Punk made me ditch teh jacket, teh shirt and facepaint i put on, the pants dont work for my style the Limey Jacket is sick! the hat would be to IF IT CAME IN BLACK teh baton threw me off on the pants. The weopan shields help me alot i have foound myself not gettign hit as much. bayonets i found useless i mean evwen if they do take more life away all i really use teh R3 button for is to get teh extra 20XP or panich rifle butt followed by a quick kill. I remember yesterday i was playing on the founders tower and the part where you can climb the side of it amazed me that i had to admire it for a few seconds. Not Rank 5 yet (2 more levels had to reset twice) and actually have all my abilities mapped out. wish they raised it to 25 but i can see the problem with that (another Rank) because if i planned right i wont be able to get silent running :(.

I 70/30 agree. I love the new maps, the new outfits aren't great, and the new gun attachments are pretty cool! the outfits are the only thing I don't really like about it. So....when's that clan system coming SD :D?

They've already said they are working on a clan system... weather or not lobbies is a part of that IDK but I can't imagine them not implementing it at some point here.

Side note: I wish we could melee while sliding because I really want to slide under someone and stab them in the crotch. :hubbahubba:

napalm grenade - ok if you throw in SMALL AREA hallways etc. feels like a slow burn cocktail but ok not great played about 15(since dlc) hours kills about 3 people with it

Pyro mine- if it catch's you your dead but easily avoided once its goes off last about 15-20 sec i think

Uav- flying death LOL can be shot so have to sneak up on people if its killed no boom has ok health so it a plus for me

Regen unit sweet its like a slow health buff that stays till dies ive played it got 32000 points people where using it so much 5 point per second per person

The UAV is a waste. It doesn't fly or jump which makes navigating it through a lot of flanking paths impossible. As a recon aid I'd rather just coms hack. As a mobile weapon it fails because of slow speed, large size and poor maneuverability.

As a side note since the DLC and patch I've had more connection problems and more lock ups. The connection problem I'm willing to chalk up to more people playing and putting a strain on the online system. The freezing seems to happen single player or online and is definitely a game issue not a network issue.

While I generally agree with the overall uselessness of the UAV (and I did have high hopes for it), the DLC far from disappoints for me. But then again, I didn't really put much investment into it being anything groundbreaking either.

The Bad:
Yeah I've been having major issues as well. My Xbox has locked up 3 times in the past 8 matches, I beat 3 of the missions first try had to repeat one of them, all 3 freezes happened during the loading screen. My screen just doesn't flow like it normally used to, it's like I have real slight lag. If it was a scale of 1-100 it would be like I had 5 lag, but it's not lag. It's not bad or anything, but it's enough to drive me crazy and throw me off.

Also for some reason when I'm playing the campaign when the match is over it keeps taking my party to matches already in progress 1 even had only 10 seconds left by the time we spawned in lol.

My team's character's appearance seems to be getting altered as well. My guy has a tendril afro - black and sunglasses blue tank vest black w/yellow stripe bouncer pants. Yet my team said I was wearing what they described as a scuba mask the eel shirt and some green pants. Which isn't even my other character so I have no clue why I was wearing that. :brokencomputer:

The Good:
Founder's Tower is really great! It's nice to actually see it get blown up, unlock the Ark's most expensive smoke bomb ever that the RES sent up the first time. The first time I played it was just amazing. The shrubs, grass, it's nice to actually see different colors than the usual ones, it's like a breath of fresh air from the plain looking maps.. The first time I went up to the construction and saw the view of the Ark just beautiful. I actually stopped and stared untill someone shot me from behind and interrupted me. I wonder what that rail going around the place is. I thought it was like a monorail at first but then I saw gaps in it. Maybe parts of it are broke?

Certain parts of the lab is nice, small but nice. I like the big digital clock that was pretty neat. It doesn't look near as good as those screen shots they released. Fun little map

The Ugly:
Weapon Attachments, and The Outfits are just just useless and ugly. The shield hasn't saved me from any headshots, which was supposed to be it's purpose I believe. The bayonet is just awkward and pointless like the knife attack. Yeah it looks cool on the end of the gun, but I'd rather have the grip. The outfits look wierd, the shirts are cool but barely. The skin tight pants look like spandex, or some kinda wierd emo goth outfits. Why can't we just have so hip, badass outfits. Some cool armors, or something. Could you imagine asking the RES who designed their outfits.."Hefty! Hefty! Hefty!" sheesh. I keep thinking these new guys are going to start reciting poems to the others, trying to find a peaceful way to end things.

I haven't had a chance to use any of the abilites yet, so I can't comment on them. Overall the new maps are just great I love them :)

The DLC is what I expected. I am done with the game. I have defended the game, praised the game and waited a stupid amount of time for the DLC to arrive. Why so slow? is Splash Damage 1 guy coding in a shed?.
The DLC does what its says on the tin however I was expecting more.

On the 360 the GFX are still garbage. This should not be an issue because Bad Company 2, Modern Warfare, Crysis 2 etc all manage good GFX quality at a good FPS on the 360.
There are still no new game modes.
Still no Lobby.
Grenades are still garbage.
Choke point campers are still annoying.
Buffing team mates is still a bit hit and miss. Press the button to buff on spawn and it sometimes does not work. In fact I think it is worse.

I am sorry Splash Damage it is too little too late. Brink will be put on my shelf, with the other games I do not play, to collect dust.

Naw...
I still have fun on Brink, the new maps and abilities/ level cap all add more to do, so i will continue to play. continue to have fun playing.
I just think that for aslong as it took to release the DLC, it just seems a little rushed, i always believe when getting new content all new additions should be earned, and a new challenge series would have been cool.
The Labs should have had 1 more primary objective outside, to make use of all that evil wide open battle space.

My use of the napalm grenade was in a tight area, its the nades AOE (area of effect) that is crap.
