Dead Money - Crash After 1st Elijah Conversation

Post » Sun Jun 19, 2011 3:06 pm

The title says it all. I walk into the BoS Bunker, get gassed, sit through the incredibly long and unskippable intro (who the heck thought that was a good idea?) and talk to Father Elijah. As soon as our conversation closes, the game crashes. Every. Single. Time. There is no way around it. The game actually does get off an autosave, but everytime I load it the game, predictably, crashes. As soon as Vera's hologram pops up, the game crashes.

Needless to say, having paid $10 for this, I would like a chance to play it. A couple minutes on Google show this is an extremely common problem with no clear solution. Has anyone found some reliable way of fixing this?

Thanks.

Edit; Unbelievable. I just tested Honest Hearts, and that too freezes just after the intro. It doesn't even finish loading; it freezes at the loading screen. Who designed these DLCs, the developers' kids?

This might be a long-shot, but it seemed to work in my case. Could work for you, too.

If you set your game's time-scale to anything other than 30, set it back to 30. Mine was set to 3, and for some reason this crashed the game in the same spot it's crashing you; just after Elijah stops talking. I went back to my save just before I started, found a helpful post on the Steam forums about the time-scale, tried it, and that seemed to work.

Hope this helps.
