So I was doing the quest bleed me dry, where you have to get eggs from certain creatures, and I had to obtain deathclaw eggs. I determined that the quarry junction would be the best place to go. Seeing as the place was full of deathclaws, I decided to keep my distance and utilize the anti-material rifle. after taking out the first few near the entrance, I moved in and looked around. Suddenly, this large, dark gray deathclaw comes into view, and I line up the shot and take him out, having learned that it was an alpha male from the messages. I moved in farther, and then I saw it; a mother deathclaw leading a line of baby deathclaws, following her like ducklings. and then I realized that the alpha male I had just killed was probably their father. And then I felt horrible.
I felt this way because, in Fallout 3, I had a mod for a deathclaw companion, who was a 11-foot tall, neon green deathclaw named Mr. Cuddles. This led me to mod the animal friend perk to include deathclaws as well. Thus, I began to think of deathclaws as friends and allies.
Long story short, I ended up loading an old save, losing about 3 hours of gameplay, and then using up my stock pile of stealthboys just to complete that section of the quest without having to kill a deathclaw in the quarry.
Its not like I have a problem with killing a deathclaw, for me its just the fact that its a family of deathclaws.
