Decoding aid effects descriptions

Post » Sun Apr 24, 2011 11:22 pm

I'm looking through the game guide and I can't find anywhere where the brief aid effects descriptions are fully decoded into English. They are the same descriptions given in the pip boy.

I keep seeing things like "+2 Rads, +1(5s) HP" and "+1 HP" and "END -1, HP +1(5s), AGI -1" and "CHR+5, PER+2, INT+2" and "AGL-3(1m), PER-3(1m),HP-8(10s)"

I think I understand that m = minutes and s = seconds. But does this mean how long the addition or subtraction lasts? Or how long it takes for the addition or subtraction to take effect? Also, are the minutes and seconds the minutes and seconds in the game or real time minutes and seconds?

I think I understand that where the reference is to a SPECIAL attribute (CHR, AGL, PER, etc), the additions and subtractions are temporary until the aid wears off. Where seconds and minutes are given for these, it is because the effects do not all wear off at the same time

I think I understand that where additions are made to Rads, they are permanent until Radaway is taken or a doctor has done radiation healing.

And I think I understand that where the effects are all negative, they are being applied to the enemy being attacked and not the character doing the attacking (poisons applied to melee weapons for example.)

Can someone shed some more light?

Yeah this is pretty easy to figure out. For the +1 Health (5s) is you gain a health every 5 seconds. Basically its just a timer saying how long. 5m = 5minutes, 1s = 1 second. Simple.
Oh yeah, and for poisons its taking away one health every 5s etc.

When it say the likes of HP +3/18s that means that you will be healed I think 3 HP every second for 18 seconds and they are usually realtime duration as if it was gametime then even a minute would be up almost instantly.

HP +2 (15s) means you will be healed 2 hit points every second for 15 seconds, which means you will heal 30 hit points but not instantly.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. :tops: That is a third way of interpreting the description that I hadn't thought of and now makes sense of what I see happening.

 Yes, obviously, now that you point it out. I've been a computer programmer for about twenty years. That tends to destroy one's one's ability to take the blindingly obvious for granted. Programming computers doesn't make you smart. It makes you as stupid as they are. Thanks again.
